I have family in JBay, and a few months ago MetroFibre began rolling out throughout the entire Jbay.
They obviously applied for it, and on any Coverage Map, it shows that their street is covered for MetroFibre Fibre.

(They don't live in a red area)

Anyway, when I asked if the Fibre was installed (with the trenched fibre cable and ONT box and everything), I was told that MetroFibre skipped their house.

I honestly have no clue why this would be the case, or if the story itself is entirely truthful, but to my understanding, they are still using Line-of-sight internet for the time being.

Now, if what they are saying is 100% truthful, how could this have happened?

@Ghostfibre Can advise if they are talking kak or not

Perhaps a pet dog chased them away.

Or perhaps an unattractive person on the premises made a move on the technician and scared them away?
The former is more likely , but they would have made a plan.

Not sure if you know this, but Herotel is also in Jeffreys bay, and they are cheaper on intro packages. Not what you asked, but worth mentioning.

if they covered Fibre in my fam's area, they most likely would have moved by now.
Herotel is the isp that provides them their line of sight internet, though.

Some interesting stuff going on in JBay, we actually have some stuff planned there but sadly KZN has taken up most of our time.

This actually can and does happen. But the resolution isn't too much of a pain for the ISP side of things. Its simple as Metrofibre doing a run to your place and linking it to the nearest manhole, which we have had done a few times.

But it isn't a short process depending on the property, if you are lucky and there is a manhole nearby then its painless.

Sorry for the delayed response, we went to focus on our experience for existing customers. Rather decent stuff upcoming for us, so look forwarding to be able to service a few more locations and be totally transparent with clients and rollouts.

So, an update:
I had an upfront conversation with the family regarding the topic, and they learned that they actually were covered (their house was never skipped).
Their only concern is the lack of first line of support that they won't be getting should something go wrong. This is a debate I am not in the mood to go into.

I honestly have no clue how good Metro's uptime is, and should something go haywire, how quickly will the fix take (irrespective of damage).

I guess that is the end of this thread for me.:notworthy:

@georgelza will be the best person to answer this ;)

so i'm in what can be called upper Wavecrest, one road away from AD Keet, inside the Wonderbook crescent.
uptime has been 100% since I went life.
The Metro support itself, well they actually get annoying how many times they phone, saying they on their way and then wanting to make sure all is now fixed after they were on site to fix it.
sped has been amazing, "pretty much spot on" sure I'm one of only a few 500/500 clients in town.

PS: I'm in IT and work from home.

That's sounds very promising. I don't hear people complain about MFN tbh, but it is nice to hear some direct feedback from a client.

The only negative feedback I have heard with regard to FNOs are with Frogfoot Fibre in Port Elizabeth. I don't know if they have improved over the course.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the amazing uptime. Hopefully this will convince my family to finally move away from line of sight. They reside in the Noorsekloof area.

Line of sight radio does not have a leg to stand on performance and stability of fiber.
Never mind value for money.
Ye frog foot is a proper toad, I’ve never heard any good.
