Some.. interesting speeds, Afrihost / MFN PE area.

Edit: nvm was just my PC being weird, restarted and back to full speed and low latency.

No worries :)

I always get full speed on the tests but I get random slow down buffering if I use the jhb servers and cloudflare just crashes kodi, so I just use the overseas (disabled) servers which work 100%.

They are using a new cdn provider in JHB now.

Yes, the name changed from joh to jnb - still the same problem with buffering usually during peak. RD also randomly switches back to default servers (jnb), the way I can tell is my stream starts buffering, I then do the RD Speedtest, disable server again, rescan sources and then carry on. Never ever have issues with their EU server.

Ok so for the last 3 nights like clockwork my fiber just goes out til morning somewhere between 7 and 9 pm. I'm on RSA web and I've blown R120 in airtime trying to get hold of these people for support on this issue and nothing. Does anyone know if there is something I can do to test if it's metrofiber or my isp letting me down?

What do the lights on the ONT indicate when the fibre is down?

All the correct lights are on. Router says it is connected to the internet via wan but no traffic goes through

Ok so that rules out your FNO being the culprit.Try and run a PingPlotter test to 8.8.8.8 when it goes down

Have you tried using a different DNS?

@cavedog

Sounds very suspicious. Maybe some sort of timer on the router unless it gradually degrades to the point where 7pm it's unusable, but at 7pm like clock work stops working doesn't make sense

Havent done a ping test but when I plug in my laptop directly it works perfectly fine. Any of my ax3 routers then it stop working.

Does the Ax3 have parental controls?

Did you change any settings or do an update recently on the router?

Hello all, I’m working with the Afrihost teams here already, but keen to get some input please.

I’ve cancelled with WebAfrica as of 01/04/2023 - had issues with them releasing the fibre line. That seems to have been resolved today.

However I’m getting a “self-assigned IP of 169….” When connecting my computer directly to the ONT.

MetroFibre confirm that the line is released but say there’s possibly an issue with something on Afrihost with the line. I see usage in my Afrihost app like 1.3GB but nothing has actually connected and neither my computer or router has internet (if tried to connect them individually both with DHCP settings under internet).

I think I did do the like activation (activate.Afrihost.com) in my neighbours fibre that we’ve been using. And that’s MF and Afrihost like me - so wondering if I broke something activating on another network now?

Scratch that… all is activated and working now!!

Thanks Afrihost/ MF.

Ok so after alot of trail and error it seems my one node is not happy with life. The newer node solo has been nothing but stable. Still a weird way for it to degrade though

Hey @MakoPC, looks like I'm in your boat now too. No more 13ms to CPT, also back to 30ms+ from Jbay :(
