Mi Max Owners Thread 3GB | 32GB Version

Unfortunately not. But better speakers, build quality, more ram, decent camera (same one as in the mi6 iirc), usb type C and 64GB base model.
A pity they didn't try to slim the top and bottom bezels a bit, cut down on the length of the thing...

I'd say sunlight legibility is on par with most other devices. Maybe slightly worse than my Samsung S5 but not much.
Strangely, despite the quality of my Note 4 screen, I find in direct sunlight it's terrible. So looking for another device, but also don't want to spend a lot on it.

I've also had a Note 4. The Mi Max is not markedly worse in sunlight, that's for sure. Most phones I've used are not great outdoors... Include the high end ones.

Yeh, strange that they always mention how good it is outdoors etc. However, I have not come across one handset where that was the case. It was still a struggle to see properly

I'd suggest downloading a different camera app. The stock one really doesn't seem to do that good a job. I went for Open Camera. Free, lots of features. Much better than the one that comes with the phone. The photos already look better without any tweaking or effects / filters.
