Mickey Arthur has resigned after clashing with Graeme Smith over selection issues.
According to Beeld and Die Burger, Corrie van Zyl will now take the team to India next month for a tour that involves two Tests and five ODIs. Van Zyl coached the Free State Eagles for several years before working at Cricket SA’s High Performance Centre.
Under Arthur, the Proteas won Test series in England and Australia in 2008, and held the No 1 Test ranking in 2009. However, his relationship with Smith has deteriorated this season, and they argued about team selections during the recent England series that was drawn 1-1.
Cape Town - Proteas coach, Mickey Arthur has resigned, according to a report from Eye Witness News.
It is understood his relationship with skipper Graeme Smith has deteriorated irreparably.
The shock resignation comes just over a year after the Protea’s historic Test series victory in Australia, and just a few days before the team’s departure for India.
Arthur and Cricket South Africa management reportedly held an emergency meeting in Johannesburg last week, to discuss the team’s struggles in the Test series against England.
It is believed Arthur met with Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Gerald Majola on Monday, about his severance package.
The tension between Arthur and Smith started apparently on the evening of the game, when Smith publicly questioned his coach’s decision to gamble with team selection.
The country’s cricket bosses are not commenting but it is believed former fast bowler Corrie van Zyl has been appointed as caretaker coach.
These two have been dragging the side down for over a year - individual performances mean nothing if the team continues to decline - chokers deluxe.

Why does he need to call in outside help for what is essentially meant to be his job?
Biff may be arrogant but he gets the job done, and I don't see anybody else who can take over as captain anyway. I'm glad that Mickey Mouse is going - we need someone who can actually coach, not sit around giving press statements all day and call in outsiders to do his dirty work.
