Microsoft launching Zune HD

WTF? At the end, the article reads:

2007 and latest projections have it falling further to 47.5%.

Lead managers of the issue were BNP Paribas, Royal Bank of Scotland and Societe Generale.

myBB often has lots of crap in their articles, mis-spellings, grammatical and language mistakes, but this one takes the cake. Its completely unrelated crap..

RPM.. care to comment on this?

The problem with the Zune's is that the software is horrible (for south africa that is) you have to download it everytime. Its a huge mission to install it on a pc with no internet and the download is +- 80mb for the 64-bit version.

The Ipod Touch has a smart operating system(OSx)
Will they load the new Zune with Windows mobile? Sis but thats all they have.

If it doesnt have a smart operating system it's not really a competitor is it? Its just another music&video player.

Well i've ordered me a Zune 120gb after alot of reviews and comparisons with the Ipod 120gb, the Zune actually comes out on top. (There's actually very few options in the large capacity MP3 players...it's mostly Ipod vs Zune vs Creative Zen Vision )

The main drawback of the Zune is being locked into a PC-only platform [no Mac] , and the ITunes equivalent software also called "Zune" . Technically the current Zunes still have more features though, Wi-Fi and FM Radios is standard on all the current models last i checked.

I already have the Zune Software, so i don't see the issue there [and it's more like 350MB in size if you downlaod the full package, don't use the 100MB one as it will attempt to update during installation which basically sucks] . The advantage is, Microsoft updates their software for -all- Zune Models [backwards and current] , unlike Apple which only adds features to new models.

The online stores also work on that silly "Microsoft Points" currency [same as with the Xbox] , so i guess it's inevitable that the Zune will integrate with Xbox Live...which is not bad if you actually do have an Xbox Live setup.

EDIT :
The new device will be a direct competitor to Apple’s iPod touch,

This particular model seems to have a touchscreen and -ONLY- a touchscreen..so it's not going to work for me. Having to manouvre via a touchscreen means you need to actually take the thing out of your pocket/bag -and- attempt to view the screen in sunlight -and- press on a specific place on the screen without that feedback feeling .

This new Zune is aimed at the Ipod touch not the non touch ipods.

Not true.

Not true.

Ok i'll rephrase that. You can load the latest software of the latest Zune onto any of the older models. So when the HD comes out, chances are the software will be available for all older models [depending on the whole touchscreen thing though].

Now on Apple there was quite a few riots because they did not upgrade older ipods firmware when the new ones came out...i can't really say if it's still the case today though.

Example article of what i mean:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/zune-30-older-ipod-classic-getting-new-firmware-fun

Apple and Microsoft both issued a slew of updates to the iPod and Zune lineups in the past two days, and it looks like some of the new features will be kicked down to older devices as well. Although it was expected that second-gen Zunes would get all the new Zune 3.0 features, Microsoft says that the older Zune 30 will also receive an update to enable Buy From FM, Channels, and WiFi music store.

Update: We just spoke with Apple, and it appears people are getting all kinds of facts wrong. The iPod classic will not be getting an update with Genius functions. Don't ask us why... it just ain't.

Obviously i'm not talking about hacking/modding your player , i.e installing firmware like RockBox on your ipod.

And when the new iPhone/iPod touch OS comes out next month it will be compatible with earlier iPhone/iPod touches.

The classics, which aren't based on OsX, are also backward compatible with other classic iPod models.

Wonder what the display will be?

Last year's Cowon A3 and Q5W had displays of 800 by 480 at 16.7 million colours.

BTW the Cowon A3 - available in 80GB and 60GB is a great PMP. The Q5W has WiFi connectivity too and a touch display.
