Oh **** ja, another one of those users that complain but never actually used the software to form his own opinion. Most of the stuff you quoted here are false, so I suggest you better try it for yourself before you form your opinion and not base it somebody elses opion.

the truth is: VISTA is a resource hog with very little benefit over XP. For this reason alone you should avoid it. I hope for all our sakes Windows 7 is lighter...but i really doubt it will be.

Sure Vista is usable. Yet with SQL Management studio, 2 visual studios and two IEs open (standard for development)...my 1 gig ram PC is not happy. I mean, what does VISTA give when you consider what it costs me in terms of performance? nothing. If it didn't take all day to reformat my PC and go XP, i would have done it long ago.

I did run it, for a bit, or rather "walked" it. It was such a dog, my PC went "woof woof" just like my dog when going walkies. POS par excellence.

Every Windows product had it own memeory requirements. Vista works well on its minimum and better on its recommended. Have you tried running XP with its min requirement? Windows XP realy only works well with 256MB and higher.

OS Min Req Recommended

95 4MB 8MB
98 16MB 24MB
ME 32MB 64MB
2000 32MB 64MB
XP 64MB 128MB
Vista 512MB 1024MB

I seriously tried Vista on my Dell Vostro 1700 with 4 GB ram, and the best of all that's available, for 3 months. I really wanted to use vista, as it's design is quite nice, but there are just too many small irritating little bugs...so I'm back on XP now - for good, or at least until windows 7 comes out...

Screenshots I saw of windows 7 looks good. I might even be tempted to use an M$ O$ again if it delivers on what it promises :D

I installed a beta copy of Windows 7 the other day and it runs really well. Installed with 512mb RAM which is the minimum requirements and everything was very responsive. Performance was good and I really liked the interfaces. It has the same Vista interfaces but without the glorious tabbed effect and other graphic effects. I will install some apps when I have the chance to test for compatibility etc...

They're just rebranding the thin client :D

I met Anders!!! ( that's what the badge said :D )

Seriously, though, I wasn't too impressed with the features of Windows 7 that were demonstrated so far. I hope they fit more features in before release...

Here's the Windows 7 demo at the PDC:
