Microsoft reveals Windows 7

As long as my games play, Reason 4, 3Ds Max works and for Pete's sake do something concrete about that registry...arrragH!!

So anything that works on Vista will work on 7. Thats nice of them. Pity half my stuff doesnt fraking work on Vista because they changed so much carp the older apps cant find or access sodding anything anymore. Bunch of idiots.

How about making it so that anything that worked on XP will work on 7? And while we at it, how about reducing the retard4ed minimum specs to run the thing???? I mean 1GB of ram just for the OS and the OS doesnt supposrt more than 3GB?? wtf is that. come now.

STOP THE BLOAT for pity sake

Debby Fry Wilson, senior director of Windows product management at Microsoft said that "one goal is to have any application and device that works on Vista to [be] compatible with Windows 7".

I'm with friedpiggy on this. Whoop-de-fscking-doop!

Forget Vista! Chuck it in the bin! Take XP and incrementally update it.

Oy vey! Win 7 sounds as though it is just going to be Vista 2, with a few gimmicks like the touchy feely screen bit.

:eek::eek:

As I've come to learn..

As much as the move to Vista broke ALOT of things.... it was necessary to keep windows going forward and to make it more stable and secure....

I've also updated my software and found only a few really random things that no longer work on Vista.

Okay so they are going to cut back on the OS, throw in touch screen capability, and move future Office to a cloud service (praying that everyone will follow them). To me is just sounds like they becoming lazy and grasping to reinvent themselves! MS just don't seem very innovative these days. I agree with you rwenzori, they should just update XP building it from there.

Cut back on the OS? in what way do you mean cut back on the OS?

and move future office into the cloud?.. Maybe in 5 or 10 years you'll only see Office as an online app... (MAYBE), but for now they're talking about having both.. since GoogleApps etc are starting to become more viable alternatives to Office and MS would be stupid not to come up with a product that can bolster their Office product line in that area.

As for the flashy aspects of Windows 7, I think in some ways its necessary, they've put everyone through a part of the pain of an architectural change to the core of the OS (which was sorely needed after XP) and now they can spend more time make the UI alot more intuitive to the average user.

Because in the current economic climate, it's unlikely that companies are going to be throwing money at upgrades just so they can run Vista or Windows 7. Streamlining would make it much easier for companies to load Windows 7 onto their existing XP workstations and that would be good for MS.

After actually reading all the reviews of the M3 and later builds it looks pretty good to me. Not a major update but it will basically be what Vista was meant to be, and that isn't bad at all.

Nice that they're actually improving performance over the last release, it looks quite a bit faster than Vista already apparently.

Ag but I don't expect anything but critisism on myadsl. Is it a South African thing? Most tech journalists who know what's going on and have actually used Windows 7 aren't as negative.. weird.

Abe : They way I read gpe's post is that he was saying MS are cutting features out of the OS... which is not entirely true... They are unbundling certain apps from the OS, but that isn't cutting features from the OS, they're just bundling those features in a different package, mostly I'm guessing to comply with competition regulations...

Unbundling= more products you have to buy and reassemble to equal the original mess.

Its just going to cost more...

Its going to be more of a mission...

Its time to make a move- more Linux support for games etc, then who will actually NEED MS? Not many people seem to want it:confused:

Well I really hope you are right. Some of us really hoped for something great, and we got Vista. Conditioning, maybe. It still looks fugly to me, what pix I have seen, anyway.

While the bloat is there, its not their fault you bought the 32-bit version and that 3,5GB is inherently the limit of 32-bit.

Isn't it 2 gigs of ram?

They're trying hard to copy OSX, but still too much clutter.

While it may be cool to hate microsoft, there are bigger issues which dictate alot of the mess.

Microsoft was way to ambition with vista. Ongoing setbacks, and eventual cutbacks of key features, in an effort to atleast ship the os created the monster which we all hate.

They are now being less ambitious, but more pragmatic in their approach. More bling, or tangible changes, and less under the hood changes. By the time it ships most things will be compatible with vista, and thus windows 7, and end users will be pleased because they will get a stable OS which looks nice, and has tons of tangible changes.

I think this release will be a popular one.
