A friend of mine wants to downgrade (or upgrade) her notebook from Windows Vista to Windows XP.

Now how do I go about doing it and what is the Microsoft SA number I must dial to get it done?

Your help is appreciated.

why would you need to contact Microsoft? You do it yourself and phone Microsoft to activate it. The new number to phone them to activate is 0801434343

Well you would need an XP disc and product key, then download XP drivers for your system, and backup all data to an external drive, and finally format and install Windows XP. Most computers sold over the last 3-4 years have come with a 'downgrade' disc. Phone the computer manufacturer and see if they can send you one.

Or get with the new and buy Windows 7.

It also depends on the Vista version you have, I think that only Ultimate and Business editions, qualify for a free downgrade.

Ok, some feedback on this :

I just decided, screw this, and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. :)

The installation picked up all the hardware and I just had to install Microsoft Security Essentials.

Another happy customer.
