Microsoft Security Essentials

AV software that doesn't bug the s h i t out of the user and can actuallly repair infected files and not delete them like the rest of the free c r a p out there. Well Done Microsoft.
Yes it works well.

Now I'm just waiting for a MSE server edition. AVG File server edition costs a fortune.

I'm also using it. Great and lightweight.
Using on home PC, work PC and also laptop.
Scans are also reasonably fast.

PS. Just a warning. I see it does a Genuine Windows Activation check when you install it. Probably will not install if you have a cracked version of Microsoft Products.
PSPS. If you have turned your Auto updates off it will be turned on again during installation. Mine downloaded Service Pack 3 for XP(Work PC) and all updates after that, during the update I thought was for virus definitions.

Well, I am having a slight virus problem, which Avast picks up and remove, but it keeps on returning. Will check what this can do and let you guys know

+1 for MSE. The updates can be a bit hefty though.

How big is the MSE install file?

Install file only 4.4Mb, installs quickly, but as APoc84 mentioned, resets your MS update options to default.
Otherwise excellent detection, low on resources and the bonus is that you can choose to allow/delete/repair the detected file.
I've been on MSE for over a month now and very happy. :)

Definitions are about 40MB+/- for MSE. I've got this update utility for MSE that doesn't depend on Windows Update, will post it when I boot up the PC.

I installed it today for a consultant who arrived at our office with Antivirus 2008 lol. It was a 8mb download.

+1 for MSC.
I'm using it on 2 of my pc's.
I tried to use it on my netbook 1.6 atom, 1GB ram. It slowed down the netbook something terrible, but it work very well on the pc's.
It seems to do better than my paid version of PC Cillen.

I am running it on my netbook at the moment, no performance issues. Also a 1.6 atom with 1Gb of ram

Ok, so Security Essentials picked up Conficker before Avast did ... I am impressed!

Using MSE as well here.

The commercial version of MSE is Microsoft Forefront Client. This will also run on Server 2003, but is a mission to install.

The Forefront Server is another nightmare to install. I'm playing around with it, but am not impressed.

But I am most impressed with MSE - it works, does the job well, and is not in your face most of the time.

I'm also quite impressed with MSE, the only thing I hate is that you can't set a proxy server for it and it doesn't use Internet Explorer's proxy settings. That's not a problem for most non-commercial users, but the use of proxies is not limited to corporates.

Um.. is there a new version of this? because on my mse it says something about upgrading..

I'm on local now.. so I can't really upgrade, I want to know if I can get the upgrade from an internet cafe .. and then re-install it..
