Microsoft Security Essentials

I'm very happy with MSE - picked up everything so far (which Avast and others didn't), and not resource hungry - MS have got a good product in this!

Um.. is there a new version of this? because on my mse it says something about upgrading..

I'm on local now.. so I can't really upgrade, I want to know if I can get the upgrade from an internet cafe .. and then re-install it..

It does not warn you everyday that your virus database are out dated like other AV's do. It is probably just a bit outdated and you can update once you have international cap.

Hmm I am tempted to try this as it seems great but I think I should stick to Avast for now. After like 6 years have never had a problem with countless flashdrives going in etc.

PS. Just a warning. I see it does a Genuine Windows Activation check when you install it. Probably will not install if you have a cracked version of Microsoft Products.

This is correct!

PSPS. If you have turned your Auto updates off it will be turned on again during installation. Mine downloaded Service Pack 3 for XP(Work PC) and all updates after that, during the update I thought was for virus definitions.

ditto

Don't worry, if you have the windows WPA crack it works fine.. (I'm speaking on behalf of my friend which has a cracker version lol...)

Well, it's a friend...

I mean I just know his version is cracked and then he installed MSE..

well doesn't matter, I was just trying to tell others, that it still works..

Well ive been using MSE for the past 6/8 months or so, never had any problems on pc or laptop.
Good detection, not memory intensive & stays out of site.
Best of all its FREE.

Saw on MyBB, I think, an ad "Panda in the Clouds" So I though by myself," that's maybe worth the free try", After Download on install it immediately shows a Message, "You need to uninstall this program to continue", >>> "Microsoft Essentials". Not to say flash and the install was canceled and Panda send to where it belongs... The Heavenly "Cloud's"

I installed security essentials on 2 laptops (celerons, 512mb ram) and a desktop |Dual Core 2gb ram and security essentials chows resources on all machines and slows surfing down, disabled "realtime protection" and surfing and speed is back to normal, I though it might be the updating but it wasn't?

yet everyone here says it uses few resources?

Ja, no problems here. Used it on many machines. This one is a Celeron 1.6 Ghz.

For the life of me I cannot understand why the writer of that little package didn't just add an option to enter a proxy server for it to use

Maybe leave a comment, think it might help most who do need a an option to add a proxy.
EDIT: Have you checked if Internet Options in the Control Panel isn't linked to it in terms of the Proxy settings.?

MSE uses the same Internet gateway as Windows Update, which is usually not the same as IE settings. I have used the proxycfg tool to make it use the proxy server, but unfortunately we have one which requires authentication.
