Microsoft tackles local software pirates
"Microsoft caused more than one million reported system crashes"
Agree
4yrs ago I reported a local Somerset West PC dealer (who now operated from his home) on pirated XP that he charged his clients for. M$ where only interested if we could give M$ a receipt and a counterfeit DVD (it had to look like the real thing).
So nothing happened.
Its because they had 1 million unhappy users. Just because you have a cracked version today does not mean you will not have a legally licenced version tomorrow.
Dude, those games are insane prices... who in their right mind would pay R700 for a single game?
I'm not surprised they pirate as they are probably saving more like R500 or R600.
What would you choose:
Option 1: R2400 Console and R700 for a launch title (Price always drops after a few months!)
Option 2: R6000 Console and PC Prices
When I was young and ignorant I pirated without knowing it was wrong but now I don't pirate at all.
+1Hmmmmmmm, let's see...
Ubuntu 9.10 = Free (or R50 worth of bandwidth – max!)
Mac OS X 10.6 = R329
MS Windows 7 Ultimate = R3199
Don't get me wrong, piracy is bad, especially if third parties are profiting from it, but does anyone else spot the REAL criminals here?

In Stanger, KwaZulu-Natal, someone was selling copies of Windows 7 Ultimate for R130 on an online auction site - a whopping R3 000 below the average selling price.
"For example, one piracy exploit caused more than one million reported system crashes on non-genuine machines before Microsoft could resolve it."
Why is Microsoft trying to fix software bugs in non-genuine machines!? They should leave it as it is so that users of non-genuine software pay the costs, otherwise Microsoft is fueling the piracy by supporting and patching bootleg versions of Windows OS
I guess I should be proud to work for a company that only sells legal software, MS should give us a 'you are LEGENDS badge'

what? for proliferating a buggy OS?
Relax everyone
It probably has to do with the fact that Gates is in SA as we tap away
Come to speak to his old buddy Zooooma about AIDS and HIV ( as one pirate to another )
MW
what a joke
one of our competitors is selling point of sale systems with pirated windows on every single machine. Over the last 5 years they have probably pirated over a thousand copies of windows and a thousand copies of office
their clients have reported them to BSA, SAFACT AND Microsoft.
Nothing has happened. No-one has ever even bothered responding to the issue.
