Microsoft to provide free software

There are a couple of free antivirus and anti spyware for home users & non commercial users. Avira, AVG, Avast as well as PC Tools antispyware v 5.5 and the just get the updates. There are fairly good products and the only cost would be the bandwidth download.

Isn't it supposed to be called MSSE? Microsoft Security Essentials.
Why steal the acronym MSE?
Oh ... wait ... Microsoft, stealer of all and everything

I understand this move, linux is getting a lot of favour in public minds because it is not as vulnerable as windows is to attacks because it exposes less services to attack, so, in a bid to close that purchase-resistance-gap, Microsoft moved to secure their operating system from attacks.

IMO, none of them are great products. I strongly suggest at this stage that you rather use Kaspersky or NOD32.

It will be great if this new Microsoft product is any good.

Sounds just like what certain GM Food companies do like Monsanto. Where they give out the free seeds, so that they can lock you in and sue you later when you try to make a sustainable income with out them. Oh well, I guess people like the quick win now and the loose in the long run. Who cares our small farmers need food now rite? Businesses needs the free software now? Who cares if it screws them over later. :erm:

With which products has Microsoft ever done that in the past? Name one product that was released free, for which they now charge.

Dammit! I've just renewed my AVG Internet Security 8.5 license. :(

Oh well, haven't had any problems since I installed AVG, so I'm a happy camper.

I for one welcome anti virus solution right out of the box.

Oh Jeesh. Yet again. MS does something legitimately good and the naysayers start bleeting.

Yip I bet you if it was another company such as Apple there would be no problem at all:erm:

Look I have nothing against Microsoft. I just don't trust them with handling security on my systems. Hackers/malicious code targets Microsoft in most cases... (probably because it is the worlds most popular home user OS) I would be worried about security holes in the their av as with their os.
