Linux has no native support for DX. WINE on the other hand has it's own implementation of DX and many win games can be played this way.

What I'm waiting for is for is all these VM people like VMWare & Sun to have DX support in their VM's. This way I could run XP in a VM and have DX support. It's comming though, just don't know when.
 
I think what quite a few people are missing about this article is that the prices quoted are RETAIL and are jumping on the BMW (Bitch, Moan, Whine) bandwagon too soon.

In all honesty who has actually bought Vista at these prices?

Most dealers buy/supply a DSP or OEM version which, in my experience is substantially cheaper.

For example a dealer would sell the DSP version for the following and still have a decent markup on the product.

Vista Home Premium : R 1,280.00
Vista Business : R 1,730.00
Vista Ultimate : R 2,385.00

Unfortunately people will once again vote in favour of MS pricing by buying Win 7 whatever the cost. This is what makes MS feel justified in charging these exhorbitant prices. Its sad when one starts to think this way, but perhaps piracy has it's place after all. MS leaves the third-world very little choice - MAC is too expensive, &
linux is for techies.
 
Well if pricing is going to be exorbitant, I'll stick to XP & either way want to learn more about Kubuntu.
 
Don't owrry too much about the Ubuntu boys - their OS is all they can get excited about since [-]there is very little you can run on it[/-] it is more secure and [-]few games you can play on it[/-] even more secure.

I am not owrried at all. Ubuntu will take another 10 years to play catchup and by then where will the rest be. I mean at last they have some integrated drivers AND a progressing desktop. I can now at last browse the internet and my PS3 harddrive.

Does anyone know if I can just purchase my copy of Windows 7 from the USA (I can transport) and no I'm not reselling. Pre-order is $50 on Home, $100 on Pro, and $220 on Ultimate.

I think you misunderstood. As I understand it, they will get the FULL version for the cost of the UPGRADE, while we will be stuck with the upgrade version.

VirtualBox has opengl support (in certain conditions)... I think it is a matter of time and then DX support will be added to these VMs.
 
Just a comment. Ive youre in the markt for an alright'ish computer, youre going to look at at least 2.6ghz dual core, with 320GB hd and 2 gig ram, right?

Listening to this, I wouldnt say Mac is so expensive. You could easily go for a iMac 20" and get the worlds best OS included, free of 99.98% of virusses instead of having to buy

You cant compare a Mac pro with ANY pc out there.

By the way, iMac is ideal, why would you want to have a Mac pro. And you dont have to buy a yearly Internet security license, so, in the long run, it will not be that expensive.

Minimacs are quite affordable at R7500 - R10000
