It's definitely not slow, the specs call for a 1ghz processor minimum, it looks as or more responsive than the best from Apple, and the rest.

Frankly WinMo 6.x reminds me of Windows 3.1. Updated my cousin's Xperia X1 to a very nice 6.5 ROM and with Cleartype and a good theme it looks and works very nicely. The vanilla ROM was horrible in comparison. Still it's an aged OS with slow performance which cannot be brought up to speed to they're rebooting completely.
 
To me a smartphone is only as good as the apps available for it. A smartphone must be able to get smarter with the addition of quality apps at affordable prices. Apple has got this exactly right ... tons of quality apps for free or $0.99. MS must get this right. Probably why MS is giving away free "7" phones to all MS employees with a letter asking them to please develop apps for the platform in their spare time. MS knows they have a huge gap to close. They surely have the money to throw at this. If they were to bring this to SA with full unlimited access to the martketplace it may still capture a large market here. With Apple and Android one cannot get it all without rooting or "playing the system". There is still an opportunity for MS but they will have to get every step right at speed to use the window before it shuts.
