Microsoft Windows Phone 7

lol, I had a Microsoft Engineer at my work for a audit and he told me that Microsoft actually fired the whole Windows Mobile team and replaced it with a new team that wrote 7.0 and that they rewritten the mobile platform from the ground up which to me explains why it took so long. This product should be good I would think but a year or 2 too late!

I was really looking forward to Windows Mobile 7 first, then WM 6.5 when it was announced. WM 6.5 turned out to be a big disappointment, and WM 7 just didn't arrive. Since then I've moved to Android - I've got the HTC Desire and I don't regret it.

However, one advantage that Microsoft does have is the tight integration with Exchange & MS Office products, as well as the MS Outlook Mobile version - one of the best mobile email clients. It really is nice to have your Outlook Mobile synced to your PC Outlook (if you don't want to burn 3G data) as well as your actual POP/Exchange email account (if you don't mind burning 3G data), and have the tight integration with Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, etc. Makes managing your business affairs very easy and productive. Other than that, I don't see any other advantages MS have. Even these advantages are eroding fast, as other vendors start polishing their interfaces with Outlook, Exchange and other MS products.

I'm very intrigued by this platform.... will wait and see whats what when its actually released

MS had better hurry, else Android will take the lead, or is it already too late? MS playing 'catchup'.

ooh, I thought it had died with them shoving it on those kiddie phones

I'm due for an upgrade in December. I'd be keen to give this WinMo7 a go. A few okes in the office have the HD2- that works well enough with WinMo6.5...

Waaaaaayyyyyyyy to late.

+ my android does integrate seamlessly with office and has a decent document editor + viewer too

i have never seen someone with so much money so late to the party. what a bunch of ****ing twats.

Now if only HTC would port Android to the TouchPro 2....

Mobile 7 looks like it is going to be a disappointment of note...

its been ported to the HD2 already... pretty sure they can port it to any phone with a ARM processor. Even seen it running on a iphone...

Holy ****! I'm so going to run winmo 7 on my iphone, not! Hehe. Not taking the mickey out of your post midkemia, just wondering who the f would want to...

if its anything as slow as the current platform, i doubt i'll ever use winmo again. considering berry or a android htc phone...

Well 6.1 is still very useful so I dunno what people mean when they say 7.0 is a little too late... :)

"Users that have used Microsoft's Zune HD will feel immediately at home" - All 5 of them, LOL.

It's ultimately a case of how many developers will still be developing apps for said platform. Win Mobile is still useful because of -years- of applications that has been developed for it. Apple OS Mobile is popular because of all the apps you now get for it, Android is rising for the same reason. Just having an OS with standard apps is not enough. So if Microsoft brings out Win Mo 7 and dump it on the market expecting companies and developers to "port" their apps over to the new platform without having a central store/repository , or a patch/update feature in place and/or proper support from Microsoft themselves, then it's dead. It does not matter how "slick" it might be, if developers are stopping to create apps for it [which is already happening] then the OS becomes useless.

Even Nokia now have a store going and are ensuring their new OS are being supported on there too. A mobile OS is all about the support, applications and flexibility. Yes the UI and performance counts alot, but that didn't make something like WebOS [on the Palm Pre] take over the world.

This is what Microsoft did wrong with Win Mobile 5 and 6 , they just did minor updates every iteration [hence why Pocket PC apps STILL run on Win Mobile] , yet they never sorted out their services . Hell after all this time they still have never used the "windows updates" feature which you saw in every windows mobile version.

So as it is, Windows Mobile is becoming as useful as a Samsung-el-cheapo OS which only runs Java Apps . It can phone, it can read email it can browse the web ...and that's it. If some new software feature hits the market, then you need to buy a new phone because Microsoft is not updating their OS [which in turns mean developers can't develop anything new ] .
