And here I thought that Microsoft was changing and perhaps seeing the light with their support for RSS in Longhorn and releasing and engaging the community with their RSS extensions.

It seems that they are now going to buy Claria which is better known as Gator an infamous spyware/adware company for a rumored 500 million dollars in their battle with google.

Microsoft AntiSpyware incidently in the latest signature updates downgraded Claria/Gator from "Remove" to "Ignore" as their default actions.

I for one hope that Google kills your entire Windows ecosystem stupid w@nkers.

Do you hate them, or like them? I'm confused, since you defend them.

Hatred is stupid ... it makes you say stupid things ... dislike them is another matter.

Now the facts clearly state the obvious in this matter ... so why be stupid and ignore it and repeat blatant lies because it fits in with your pet theory regarding the company ???.

As apposed to your posts?

I dont have pet theories about MS. It is actually part of computer history that they made zillions from other peoples hard work. I dont admire that, and if that is not considered stealing then good for them. They are rich, the people who did the work are not. Fair business transaction yes, morally correct most probably not.

I do however like Windows. Not because i dislike Linux but since i can play all my games on it. Its not really easier than anything else out there, its just everywhere. That makes it "easy".

If MS invades our homes then its cause they deliver things that people want and because they are able to market. There is no monopoly on OS's. If someone out there can rival the MS Marketing Engine then MS will fall.

Hiding behind a keyboard? Ya wanna duke it out in the playground after school or something?

I thought I was being perfectly clear as to what I think you are. Someone who enjoys playing the devil's advocate just to see who you can get a rise out of.

To all that doubt that Microsoft steals most of its ideas, watch the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley. While admittedly it isn't some documentary, I've read comments from many of the people involved stating that the movie is pretty accurate. They started by lying to the developer of DOS and selling it to IBM before even having the rights to it in the first place. Later they stole code from Apple's Mac OS to use in their Windows OS, and then lied to Steve Jobs that they were even creating such an OS. They also stole the idea of the mouse and GUI from Xerox while still working for Apple. The first versions of Windows were so buggy that they could barely be used.

These days they have the cash, so they simply buy companies that have cool products they want.

I find it amusing how you guys get worked up over something that happened over 25 years ago. If Microsoft's business model was based solely on stealing others' technology they would have been out of business a long time ago. I don't see anything wrong with matching what the competition are offering, in fact it's expected in a competitive market. If Apple weren't quick on the draw that's their loss. Don't hate the player... ;)

Nah, clearly you're wrong, because they're making a booming business out of it.

How wrong ... they did not steal code from Mac OS ... it was a contractor which worked for Intel which ripped some of their own code from Quicktime which they had developed for Apple.

Here is the facts behind this story.

In July 1993, the San Francisco Canyon Company entered into an agreement with Intel to deliver a program (codenamed Mario) that would enable Intel to accelerate Video for Windows' processing of video images. However, although Intel certainly knew that Canyon had developed key parts of the code for Apple, it did not specify that this must be undertaken in a clean room, which is a damning condemnation in view of Intel's experience of such matters following its own litigation with AMD. A month later, Canyon delivered the program to Intel containing code that was an exact copy of the code that it had previously delivered to Apple. Intel gave this code to Microsoft as part of a joint development program called Display Control Interface.

Well Apple did exactly the same as Xerox did not patent the WIMP (Windows,Icons,Mouse,Pointer) concept developed at their PARC labs.

There was a courtcase against them and and Apple lost as they stupidly licensed the look and feel to Microsoft for eternity in exchange for Microsoft products for the new Mac platform.

Okay ... so who is next to be corrected ... step right up folks ... the devil advocate is waiting ;).

Gator or Claria has the third largest Oracle database in the world (120 terabytes) which contains the click throughs of the zillions of Gator/Clario spyware infected PC's.

That knowledge is a gold mine for web advertising.

Certainly. Mainly their own employees - if you've ever known anyone who has worked there, you'll know the extreme amounts of work they put in. They have been rewarded for it too.

I really think you should watch the movie, and then read what some of the people that were actually involved in the whole thing have to say about the movie. You're dead wrong, but whatever Tibby, you clearly love believing Microsoft is some saintly and wonderful company, so we can also agree to disagree.
