I'm jumping between offices and often don't have convenient connectivity.
I could hotspot using my phone, but there are surely more affordable ways of doing this. probably looking at 10-20Gb per month
luxury: it would be nice to have a portable wifi that could be used now and then by other family members on the go.

option a)get a data only contract with a mifi device
I have looked at my cell/internet/bank (vodacom/rsaweb/standard) and vodacom offer this, but it's a bit pricey (25GB for R169, but locked for 24 months). the others don't offer this as a simple addon to my current contract.

option b)add a data sim to my cellphone. I have a galaxy A54 that has two sim slots, with one available. Does this work in practicality?

option c)find a data sim contract with whoever has the best black friday special ad get a mifi device off takealot. cautious there will be network lock issues.

open to suggestions, I really thought this would be easier.

Yes, do month-to-month.
If Telkom's coverage isn't great, switch networks.
Buy the mifi on Takealot, for example, and make sure it's not locked&sponsored by a specific network.
I am happy with my ZTE but I see now the price has gone up from R600 what I paid in October to R1000.
