So Mike - i actually forgot the reason i posted that message yesterday was because i extended my cable using CAT5e and the length of the cable was 15m, + the 10m of the CT coil itself. So i have quite a long CT cable and its been working with no issues at all - something to look into for your use case

@Enzo Matrix the seperation of Essential vs Non-Essential has to be done at the DB level. If you wire the CT Coil on the incoming Eskom feed pointing to the DB, then the inverter can supply those feeds between the CT coil and itself (the non-essentials) when there is excess PV. If there is no excess PV or it is at night then the Non-Essentials are powered by Eskom direct

Does one still need to install the CT if everything is on essentials (load)?
 
So just had my first full month and can compare bills.

Before:
1086 kWh @ R 2966.51 (incl ~R800 network, service etc charges)

After:
401 kWh @ R1676.78 (incl ~R800 network, service etc charges)

Prepaid conversion will be done in the next few weeks will will eliminate the thieving R800 service charges.

Then when the CT is sorted out, I'll put a timer on the geyser to switch off at night. This should bring my overall usage down to below 100 kWh.

Later in the year I'll add another battery or two and switch over all non-essentials. Should be off-grid then with the exception of a few days of crap weather...

I bought annextra CBI Astute by mistake... can send it over to you for the geyser timer

Thats a really nice reduction... congrats!! A 3rd battery will definitely take you off the grid for all intents and purposes... try see how qyickly you van sort out the CT...my solar is charging my geyser up right now as we speak

I bought an extra CBI Astute by mistake... can send it over to you for the geyser timer

Thats a really nice reduction... congrats!! A 3rd battery will definitely take you off the grid for all intents and purposes... try see how qyickly you van sort out the CT...my solar is charging my geyser up right now as we speak and it makes a world of difference.

Won't it be charging from solar even on non essential if ther enough solar?

Eg... load = 1000w essential, 3000w non essential

Solar Production at 4500w

Where do you see the network charges...

On my coj account it only shows usage

If the CT is installed in the inverter as mine was then no, it wont power Non Essentials ... it had to be moved to the DB to enable that

Thanks, would have taken you up on the offer if I didn't already get one :D waiting for them to do the CT so I can get it hooked up at the same time...

A friend (in Parkmore) is connected directly to Eskom and therefore pays Eskom tariffs, whereas all other charges (e.g. water etc.) are raised by the City of Johannesburg.

Could this apply in your case ?

Only shows charges, however about 4 years ago I applied for prepaid, paid the 800 or so never went back to activate Screenshot_20220319-164215_Write on PDF.jpg
