Mini SE users. My bakkie has a drinking problem and I have a heavy right foot. With the current fuel price I want to buy a small electric car for commuting to work.

Daily commute is about a 100km

MINI claims 217km range on the previous models (31 kW/h) but all the secondhand ones I have looked at shows 110 km range when fully charged?

What can I expect to get for a 2 year old one with about 50k km on the clock?

Was a stupid car with stupid range from the start.

Will be even more stupid second

How long did you have one before coming to this conclusion?

Please let me know what other Electric car do you recommend for R400k?

I've have test driven all the ones on the market sold for under R500k and the Mini is the only one that I enjoyed.

I have other cars for longer drivers , 200 km range is more than adequate for my use case.

If EV is your thing, and what you want just for the short range commute, why not buy a new BYD Dolphin. It will comfortably do the range you want, and have warranties etc.. and be cheaper than R400k.

Dolphin Surf is just to slow, 15 s to a 100 is just a frustration. I'm sure it's perfect for a lot of people but I can't.

Dolphin Standard at 12.3 s is better but I'm firm on my R400k budget

Fortunately I skipped owning one because I saw the exact problem you are facing now where it only has 125km of range on a full charge after a couple of years of ownership.

200km is a compromise, not adequate, 125km is not possible at all.

Fair enough, but you seem to have competing requirements that are going to defeat the purpose of your choice.

You can have an EV that will do your range comfortably, or you're going to compromise on range and introduce range anxiety because you push it harder than the range calculators base their distance figure on.

Maybe wait a bit for the new electric geely to launch, apparently it is a competitor to the dolphin surf, there is also the icaur brand that will be launching sometime this year.

There will also be the Atto 2 launching at some point this year from what I can gather.
