Mirrorless Camera Recommendation

What are you using now?

Nothing really. Been shooting with an iPhone 6S for the last few months, mostly just for Instagram stuff... Hijacked a family member's unused 600D last weekend, which I will use till end of January.

Pity about the excessive distortion and low noise filter on the 6/6s. 5s camera is superior in these regards, and takes better close ups. It also focuses better, albeit slower.

I find the 6S to be better in almost every way, to the 5 and 6 I had before that. I don't even notice any distortion, with the type of photos I take. I also have no issues with focusing.

I've been quite impressed with my S6.

Try take a fairly closeup pic of a fruit/berry on a plant. Tap on the fruit. You'll see that it doesn't really get into focus.

The low noise filter and 'smudging of colours' is really frustrating.

Edit - read wrong.

That is mostly perspective distortion... There is a slight bend in the closest post, but that is hardly noticeable.

Not too fazed as to what it is, but it's far worse than the 5/5s. I have a feeling it's also to do with the protruding lens.

It is not the camera that causes the perspective distortion... So you should be fazed about it. It means your 5S would have done the same.

Of course, anything would do the same. But the 5s was far less affected by distortion, and my example is one of many.

Those lamp posts were not as distorted on the 5s.

That's not distortion, and even if there was it's an extremely bad example...a moving pepper shaker at a funny angle? You need a mount, whiteboard, straight lines, etc. etc.

Of course it's distortion. Anything uniform in shape towards the edges of iPhone 6/6s photos get distorted. It's a perfect example too and I don't need those items to demonstrate this.

Anyone with reasonable perception will tell you that the Merc is severely distorted.

And yet everyone argues with you about this subject...guess you're the only person here with reasonable perception?

There's definitely some truth in that.

Anyway, the Merc would not have been distorted on my 5s.

When I have some time, I'll compare my 5s and 6s, and school you all.

I'll use my Joby GripTight gorillapod, just for you. :)

Oooorrr you could just take your own advice ;)

That's such a false comparison. Comparing having to tap twice to reach an email attachment button, with a **** camera.

I do enjoy my iDevices, but the camera of my iPhones has always been pivotal for me. They've always been regarded as the best and most consistent. The consistency is still there, but the sheer image quality has taken a massive step back, particularly by the introduction of the low noise filter since the 6. I was always able to deal with the minor distortion of the 5s, but the 6/6s' distortion is extreme in comparison. Never had objects been so warped.

I take thousands of photos with my iPhone, it's my primary camera. This is all a massive disappointment for me. And it actually affects every single user, even though they may not see it, so no, I don't think it's nitpicking.
