Mirrorless Camera Recommendation

The iPhone 6 is reported to have a max geometric distortion of -0.3% which is minuscule when compared to a lens like the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18-55 mm f/2.8-4 OIS which was measured at -5.27% at 18mm (similar to the iPhone).

First impressions:
1. How the F do I use this thing?
2. Hey! This is just a glorified point and shoot!
3. Double exposures are fun..
4. Hmmm.. This thing might be quite awesome.

Downside: I'm using LR5 which doesn't recognise the RAW files. **** you Adobe.

Selling my DSLR today if all goes well! Funding an X-T10 or X-T1 body. ( ͡ಠ ͜ʖ ͡ಠ)

I am assuming you mean the XT10. When I am looking cameras I download the RAW files from photographyblog.com and evaluate those. Darktable can handle the RAW files from the XT10. Here is one of their files processed using Darktable. The only active settings were for the white balance.

Bwana has already mentioned that the handling of EXIF on Darktable makes it unsuitable for professional use.

Overall the XT10 images look awesome. The camera seems to overcome the nit-picking reservations I had about the X100S.

BTW: would this be the right time to mention that Fuji are going to start rolling out a new line of X series cameras with the next generation sensor, starting next month?

Yup, the X-T10. Will probably upgrade now, was expecting to soon anyway.

Yeah, been happy. Will definitely be pulling it out here and there for the weddings I'm shooting this month.

I didn't know that..

I am imagining that the new generation cameras will come in at our new exchange rates. Now might be a good time to buy.

Only the new X-Pro for now... Not true? Rumour sites have said the X-T1 replacement will only be later in the year.

But the prices of older models might drop if that's the case.

The effect these exchange rates are puzzling to me. I paid considerably less for my 7D mk 2 the other day compared to what I would have in the US.

I hope Canon is going to properly get into the game next year with the M4. They released the M10 this year but that's only to bridge the gap for the amateur market. Still with no proper lens support.

Regional pricing?

The main draw for me when I got the EOS-M was that I could use all of my existing lenses. I only want to maintain one set of lenses and I want to be able to use them on any of my bodies - for that reason they're all EF. I got a 22mm with my EOS-M but that's generally tucked away in a drawer.

It must be but they're pricing it surprisingly low nevertheless.

Prices in S.A seem a bit closer to the Malaysian prices exchange wise than to the Dollar exchange.

1RM = 3.43 ZAR 7D mk2 = RM4995 = R17133

Malaysia one of S.A's trading hubs, and i imagine its cheaper to bring in from there as well, as Canon have factories in Malaysia.

We've been around this block before. An adapter isn't lens support. Canon needs to seriously invest in lenses if it takes mirrorless seriously. For us who skipped the DSLR hype mirrorless and the accompanying lenses are all that's needed.

The adapter is camera support for my lenses which are considerably more valuable than the body.

If you're one of those who "skipped the DSLR hype" then you missed out on a decade of photography - your loss.

It should have the adapter yes. But that is not lens support, which is why Canon is getting the brunt for their decision to treat mirrorless as the ugly stepchild.

How would you feel if Canon only supplied an adapter for fixing other lenses to your DSLR and no lenses made for it?

Sure, canon has barely dipped their toe into the mirrorless pond but since, for the moment at least, I can't find any mirrorless manufacturers who make the lenses I need an adapter is the only solution.
