Mirrorless Camera Recommendation

Good to go through it all to be sure of your decision. For me, it took a week of reviews and YouTube videos. As an ex Nikon DSLR user, I was sceptical about mirrorless, which I know you are too. Your excellent DSLR set a level of expectation that needs to met or exceeded, and I understand that this concerns you.

There is so much positive feedback in this thread, and there is a good reason it is probably the most popular camera/system at the moment, and for quite some time.

I would advise buying sooner than later to take advantage of the promotion. Use us as a bouncing wall, I'm sure we can help you along. Check out the Amazon reviews on the lenses. Mindblowing.

You sum it up perfectly because you know exactly where I am coming from.

I will certainly check out Amazon reviews too, thanks. I tend to always go back to DPReview and BHPhoto for reviews and samples. They offer nice in depth details, reviews and in BH's case user reviews and experiences.

Ah thanks. Don't know how I missed that. Been looking at prices and lenses for the last week on ORMS and also OutDoorPhoto.

Oh man that is so tempting now.... Tsk tsk tsk :D

Those are just the normal RRP's with the normal Fuji claimbacks. I bought my X-T10 from FotoFirst and have sent through my claim already. I'm guessing when those are up they'll have new claim backs again. Iirc before October the X-T1 and X-T10 came with a bag you could claim.

I have been following this thread with interest due to the desire for a light and compact travel camera. The Fuji looks appealing, but the small frame DSLRs also look like they also have potential. Here is a size comparison between the X-T1 and the Canon 100D.

Fuji_Canon_Front.jpg

The Canon is narrower and slightly lighter than the Fuji. On the other hand it is about 22 mm thicker. Digging into the Canon lens bin and selecting one the pancake 24 or 40 mm lenses will however give a combination that is about 25 mm thinner than the Fuji with the kit zoom.

Another factor is that the EOS 100D with the 24 mm lens will cost under R6k.

Just posting this for anyone here who is currently considering the alternatives.

I have had the X-T10 now for the last 6 Months and it is just such a joy to use, only have the 18-55 Kit lens but it i such a Good little piece, time to upgrade to some bigger optics, i see they might be launching the 100-400mm soon so will be looking to see how it perform, as I read a few reviews on the 55-200 and it is apparently a very good lens, I just wish I had bought the X-T1, purely for the waterproofing.

Damn I only now learn that Sony pulled out it's AV division from Africa, been doing some research and the a7 series looks absolutely amazing and perfect for what I want to do. Regardless, I still have my eyes set on an XT-1, just waiting for some kind of announcement from Fuji that could possibly bring down the price

Can;t wait to get my claws on this .

"Now the deal is this; XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 OIS WR weights only
1.375kg. Add the XF1.4 TC which is another 130 grams. The total
weight is at approx 1.5kg! Now you are probably getting one of the
smallest and lightest zoom lens at 840mm! Attached it to a X-T1 and
you have a total package under 2KG! WOW? Here is another; its
comes with a class-leading 5.0 stop image stabilization!"

I'd really love one of those Fujis, even the first X100 or a X-E1, but unfortunately they're way out of my budget, even more so considering how little I use my cameras these days :(

Get one. You'll use your camera a lot more.

Been eyeing the X-T1, or Nikon D7300. Like everything about the X-T1, but really want the extra MPs and better focusing... The X-Pro2 sort of seals the deal for me. Think I will get it and a couple of lenses... and then later get the X-T2 as well and a few more lenses :)

...although I see the price is going to be rather high. X-Pro1 was cheaper than X-T1, so I expected this X-Pro2 to be around X-T1 pricing. Looks a bit steeper than that. A few grand steeper!

Yea I think it's similar priced to the Sony A7 series if I'm not mistaken, although hard to say since Sony no longer sells in SA. My guess is it should be R40k+

Eish

Doubt it will be that high... $1699, so around R30k is my guess.

I still haven't taken the plunge with the X-T10.

Currently trying to organise with Makro to order the camera for me so that I can use the R10'000 in vouchers I have. But I haven't stopped reading about the camera for one moment.

Reviews are all great and the cons are usually petty stuff.

With the XPro2 launched. Any chance we will see a X-T2 or X-T20 soon? Guess not for the X-T20 as the T10 is not even a year old yet.

That was a very enjoyable experience with Makro customer care.

I'm on my way to a store now to just put down a deposit.

They are ordering me the X-T10 kit and will then have it delivered to the store so that I can pay the balance with the Makro Vouchers.

Went for the kit with the 18-55 F2.8-4 lens. It will be enough for now while I get back into the swing. Will then use the cash I saved up to actually buy the camera to get the 35mm prime and spare battery perhaps.
