Mirrorless Camera Recommendation

I see the fujifilm-xf-100-400mm-ois-wr-lens is now available for Pre-order and should arrive later this week, time to hurt the CC again,

So it took a week or two longer than expected but I just collected from Makro Silverlakes.

First problem started when Fuji didn't have any stock left. Luckily new shipment landed last week and even though price was now much higher, Makro still honoured the R13'900 price they initially quoted me.

Second problem was an uninformed employee who didn't phone me when the camera arrived last week (granted he didn't know about the arrangement). It was then returned to Fuji and after sorting out the red tape because of that it was dropped yesterday at the store again. This time I had confirmed the contact person and the contact person confirmed he had the camera in his office.

Picking it up was a breeze this afternoon and I even had a nice chat with the manager. He gave me his personal card and said if I ever needed something ordered again I must go directly via him. He will arrange everything.

Nice one man :) Haven't had time to post my experience with the camera, let's just say that I love it :)

Congrats! Were you after the Graphite Silver one?

Hi TjiPPi

I recently bought a canon g7x which is not a mirrorless but the image quality still amazes me. The size is perfect because it's pocket-friendly. I have been told the downside of mirrorless is low battery life and i would suggest you get a second battery just incase you run out of power when taking pics of the family or traveling.

Hoping to hear what you have gotten and to see some of you pictures

Bought the X-T10 with the 18-55 for R13 495 on the 4th December. That's the price now for the X-T10 with the 16-50. I see Orms' price on the kit I have for R16 595. Madness.

Now that you have had some experience with the Fuji, how does it compare to the DSLR? Does it seem worth making the switch (I am eyeing out their end-of-year specials).

So... Been using it properly since the beginning of Jan, and I'm in love with it. On our roadtrip it was always with me, while my friend hardly ever pulled out his Nikon DSLR. I think if I can brought along my 6D I would've felt the same. I'm not a huge fan of the lens, I've been using a few M42 lenses on the X-T10 and that seems more my speed, although the 18-55 is convenient.

Some sample images. Mozambique, Malawi, Maboneng and Cape Town.

I just read through the whole thread and noticed the favorite mirror-less camera here seems to be Fuji. The Fuji is a great camera but why no love for Olympus? They were one of the first to release a mirror-less camera and probably has the biggest selection of lenses. Even more when you consider that Panasonic and Olympus use the same micro 4/3rd's mount so lenses are interchangeable.

My Olympus EM5 is a few years old now but i still see no need to upgrade.

I got the X-T10 and really happy with it. Only wish they would add more manual control while shooting vid. Auto focus is not too bad though during vid.
Yes, the battery life is not the best. Typically lasts at least a day to day and a half where the dslr lasts much longer.

I mostly take family pics at the moment - earlier in the thread there are few pics of a trip to Oman. I really need to try and take some more time to go and see places and do bit of photography - but 2x 4 year olds are bit of a handful at new interesting places.

The 35mm f2 currently has my attention...would like to get one...

Slightly OT:
I'm looking for a bag for the Fuji. I really like messenger bags that does not look like a camera bag for obvious reasons. I have the Think Tank Retrospect 10 (about 5 years old now) but it is just a little too big for the Fuji. The Retrospect 5 is a nice size, but the price is a bit high. Does anybody have any sugestions that I can look at. I don't really like the look of the Lowepro though.

Fujifilm is just overall a better system for me. The build quality and lens quality and price is a cut above. Their presence in SA is better. I was put off by Olympus' 2x crop factor; I prefer the Fujifilm 1.5x DX format. What also sold me on the Fujifilm is the JPEG quality, arguably the best out there. I don't have time to muck about with raw at this stage.

Purely because I like to read a ton of reviews from people that I follow and the two main brands when it came to mirrorless - Sony and Fuji.

I like the Fuji better, so went with it. I didn't give Olympus a second thought to be honest.
