Missing SAPO Parcels and Letters

do they use SAPO this side or couriers?

USPS ONLY works with SAPO. Postal services work with each other, not with 3rd party couriers, unless the local postal agency has a deal with couriers, which won't happen in SA.

It never ceases to amaze me that a parcel can travel 10,000km around the world to Joburg, pass through customs and make it to the Cape Mail Hub in 4 days, only to then site there for a full week. This is absolutely unacceptable. I was so angry today that I drove there and gave the guy my tracking number, telling him I wanted my package NOW. He told he couldn't go in the back and look for it, cos they were too busy.

Meanwhile, I can hear guys playing around in the back, kicking a ball about. What the hell has happened to the SAPO? It was never great, but really seems to have gone massively downhill lately.

I finally received a parcel I ordered around 7 months ago, that meandered its way from China -> ZA
I've literally been to China and back here *twice* since I ordered it. Was a small geeky toy so wasn't too worried about it either way, but thats the longest a parcel has taken thats eventually arrived.

I've taken to bringing everything via my luggage now, or sticking stuff in a container and shipping.

Our experience is quite different. It takes up to two weeks for JIMC to scan in a package handed over by the international carrier, then it takes another two weeks for them to forward it to Capemail, who then process it and have it at the local post office within a few days.

EMS stuff arrived reasonably quickly. One week from Kyoto to Johannesburg. Two days in Johannesburg. Arrived in Cape Town on Sunday. At door on Monday. Of course in the past it would be TWO (2) days from Kyoto to Johannesburg and next day at door. Stuff mailed by EMS from Japan on Monday would be here on Thursday at my house.

1x Ebay item sent in Nov, never arrived.
1x Geekbuying item, sent from China a month ago, still waiting, not holding out much hope :(

I heard rumours that those cretins at SAPO are about to or already striking again

I will NEVER F#^CKING buy anything from overseas EVER AGAIN!
It is an absolute disgrace. I've ordered about 5 items since last year and have not received one.
I'm going through this thread now and I have no hope when I see people are still waiting for items from March last year :O
I honestly feel morbid for people who rely on deliveries from overseas for business etc.
What a flop!

They're on a go slow, and contemplating a strike.

I don't know how they could go much slower to be honest, but that's the status quo

So sad, all these stories. Outrageous, in fact.

Which gets me thinking: what a nice world it would be if people were honest. And, how do we make honest people? (Don't answer. Just an idle thought.)

Can't we start a campaign against them? I will create a SAPO challenge and upload to Youtube, as long as you all follow.
This will create a trend and surely we will get some response :D (wishful thinking I know :( )

Don't you worry, SAPO delivers. My kid received his b-day present for his 14th birthday from his grandparents overseas two weeks ago. BTW: He turned 16 the other day.

Just received an item posted in Nov from Hong Kong

Received an item from China posted in October. They also had the cheek to delay delivery because of a customs duty check. At least they provided the RR ... CN number this time so I had more or less an idea who sent the item because they don't state the shipper. At the end I had to get the invoice from PayPal because Ebay would no longer generate an invoice - it was past the 90 days. I had to go to China Post and see when the item was posted - it was 4-5 days off from the time of the closest Ebay shipper. Ebay seller did not provide a tracking number. I should have filed a non-delivery claim with PayPal but at the end I'd have been refunded and because I'm honest I'd have returned the money now. With the worse exchange now than in October 2014 I'd be paying more now for the same item so at the end it was better for me to wait.

Thankfully the more expensive stuff via EMS from Japan is getting here reasonably quickly and requiring no additional paperwork and what's a nice bonus is that the Yen has depreciated with regards to the USD. It's cheaper now to buy stuff from Japan than US.

Yen: Dollar was about 100: 1 USD
Yen: Dollar now is about 120: 1 USD

The nett effect is not so bad. The Rand slid from 8 to 12 to the Dollar, while the Yen slid from 98-100 to 120. It's still a worse decline for us, but not as bad as the US:Rand hike.
