So, I moved my car insurance from Outsurance to MiWay in April this year, because Outsurance caused me to get a summons. At the time, MiWay's premiums were extremely competitive, and I had a R0 excess, while Outsurance could only offer a R2500 excess.

Last month, MiWay tells that my premium is going to increase by R100, despite the fact my premium was supposedly guaranteed for 12 months. Why? Because MiWay does not know what sort of alarm system I have. I tell them, but you did a vehicle inspection, why do you not know? Oh the vehicle inspection place is not qualified to inspect alarms. But you organized the inspection - why not have it inspected somewhere where they are qualified to assess the alarm? Silence. I send through proof that I have a Level 4 alarm, and they promise that my premium will stay the same.

Today, I get a letter from them saying a whole bunch of BS about the exchange rate, and saying that my excess will be increased from R0 to R3300, and if I dont want my excess to increase, my premium will increase significantly.

I am phoning to cancel as soon as I have alternative insurance.

Can anyone recommend a good broker?

Try the Hippo

Do not trust the Hippo......

Hippo Insurance offers a service of providing ‘competitive or comparative quotes’. What this means is that they provide customers with numerous insurance quotes from various ‘different’ insurance companies, thus letting customers find the best/cheapest offer for their needs. Despite claiming to do this, they were deemed to have not clearly disclosed the very important fact that all the quotes were sourced from insurance companies that are all part of the Telesure Group. Basically putting it, people were getting quotes from one parent company and not from different companies.

See article here http://carinfo.co.za/hippo-insurance-fined-r1-million-for-withholding-information/

Here it goes again. You are getting robbed legally again. Only that you have a choice to choose who robs

Try Indwe or AON.

Those dodgy "no broker" insurance companies are just that.

Each year they call me to increase my premium, I say its fine, call them back in a few minutes and tell them I want to cancel, you wont believe how fast that premium increase disappears.

King Price. They beat ANY quote, your premiums decreases every month, and fantastic customer service.

+1

Going with a broker was the best move ever for us. Not only do we save a fortune, but somebody else sorts out all the paperwork for us and he is just an email away. Heck when I bought my new car last year I just popped him an email to say I'm buying a car from this dealership and he sorted it all out for me.

Mutual and federal= No nonsense and you don't need a broker.

People should stop drinking the Outsurance cool-aid. Going without a broker is silly unless you know the industry. They have a lot more influence than a single individual and can negotiate better rates. We went with a broker after going direct to an insurance company and not only did he cut our total insurance by 20%, he increased our cover by 50%. Also brokers can identify risk that the general customer is not aware of.

Been with MiWay for about 3 years and never had any issues. Claimed once when my keys to both vehicles were stolen. They paid for two sets of keys, new ignition lock, door locks, boot and petrol cap lock on both cars. Claim was paid out in a week.

MiWay is part of Santam. i called Santam to get a comparative quote and the broker confirmed this and the premiums were similar so ended up staying with MiWay.

Aon took over Glenrand MIB's insurance operation and I've been happy with them before and after the takeover. It isn't the cheapest but up until now they've been ethical in their behaviour and they have payed out promptly when we've had issues with no attempts to stuff us over.

Edit: incorrectly said Santam when I meant Glenrand MIB.
