I am an adult - and looking forward to Idols tonight?
I also watched the complete auditions (of all the provinces) on ch.198 on DSTV. Am I insane or is this normal.

Are you watching for entertainment or talent? When you say that you are an adult, how old are you exactly, young man/woman or parent/housewife?

I find idols very entertaining and there is absolutely nothing wrong with following the whole show.

Is dstv showing american idols this year? Hasn't it started yet? (I don't google anything idols-related because I don't want to see any spoilers!)

It premieres on Wednesday, 4 March 2009 and runs twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays - with the first Thursday show on 5 March.

I was initially iffy about the dates because of how last season's Finale went out within hours of being on in the US - I was concerned it was starting too late to happen again.

It seems it will though - Season 7 premiered in the US in mid-January 2008, we caught up by seeing two episodes a week and the schedule runs the same this year.

The new season premiered in the US on 13 January, 2009 so we should catch up on time.

Thanks so much, pauld -- I had exactly the same concern: that dstv was starting too late to catch up in time.

Your head boy isnt by any chance that guitar playing 17 year old giant from Northcliff is he?

Tht young man is very talented, i see him going far in this competition.
Yeah ive seen all of the auditions myself, ssssso hypnotic, 198 definitely my snake charmer:o

ah, no, my head boy was the guy with the key board ha ha :). My head boy is pretty talented though, ha ha :). but yeah, that northcliff guy dropped out of school to do idols, so i really think he better go far :p ha ha(I have friends who know him)

Cam dropped out of school? interesting...

I really enjoy the show especially the auditions when some just have no clue that they can't sing

I agree. I have not watched any of the previous seasons, but somehow this year I tuned in by mistake and quite liked it!

Regarding some of those awfull singers - it is all their parents' (and society's) fault. In these stupid PC times we live in everybody is "good" at something. Even if they suck. "Pragtig Jannie, jy sing soooo mooi!". Meantime he sings like a drain gurgling. Jannie then enters Idols and is shocked and in tears if the judges laugh at him.

It is time we let people know if they suck - early on in their lives. Giving the weak, untalented and stupid amongst us false hope is to nobody's advantage.

Just think of the intelligence of the average person....then realise that half the population is dummer than them.

They enter idols.

(along with some genuine talent)

I don't know so much about SA Idols. I find the judges are really boring and rather unimaginative if you compare them to American Idols. Randal is just a Simon Cowell wannabe IMO.

Also i don't like how they don't show you the contestants families or friends when they leave the audition. There isn't much emotion to SA Idols and i think that's what people love watching.

So ya i do watch it but if i had to choose i'd rather watch American Idols, the show is just put together and thought out better.

Cam dropped out of school? interesting...

I personally know Cameron... family friend. All hes wanted is to become a musician, sure he'll finish matric after Idols, but a music career has been his goal for a while now

:D:D. Not really meant for this thread, but one can see this PC b&llh*t surfacing in school sports as well. Agro fathers that take on the coach because Pietie was not selected. But Pietie cannot hit a garage door with a banjo. Dad, and Pietie, however, believes he is the next J.P Dumini....
