Mobile data bundle costs: MTN versus Vodacom versus Cell C

I mainly use Vodacom 3G as a backup and for travel (on prepaid). I wonder if I should wait and see if they better MTN's deals. If not: MTN just got a new customer.

I wouldn't compare Cell-C with MTN and Vodacom at the moment as they don't offer 3G.

MTN are currently dominating with the sub-500MB bundles, see here for my comparison.
It will be interesting to see how Vodacom counter MTN's new pricing.

Man, those prices just plain stink!

It's like distinguishing between these fine gentlemen, seen here enjoying their annual collus... er.. golf outing:

But Moe and Larry are not too happy with Curly since he recently boobed with his oobs:

Is it just me or do I understand this wrong? They slash the OOB rate, but the in-bundle rate remains the same so what's the use if you always make sure that you remain in-bundle.

It would have made sense to me if they had told me that the in-bundle rate had been dropped from R0.19 to say R0.09 then I would have been jumping up and down with joy.

Someone please enlighten me if I am getting this wrong.

One should also add Telkom Do3G to the mix of comparisons - they are a small bit cheaper but have less coverage for reception. Their 500Mb package is about R 150 - still expensive, just like all the other 3G data providers - this is one area where the consumer still gets ripped off big time !

This is one area where compared to the rest of the world we are actually competitive. This is a great first step from MTN and hopefully it will just improve from this point forward!

And lets not forget their oob rate has always been 30c.

with the groovy reductions in ADSL, there is no reason why the HSPA prices cant also come down nicely?
I see MTNSP is already marketing the HSDPA 21M( 28.8M READY) HSUPA 5.76M Huawei E1820
but atm even the E220 is not properly maxed out in many areas.
Come on guys... give us the speed and lower prices, look at the bigger picture, lower your prices - u will still improve on your income :)

I use Vodacom pre-paid as a backup when Telscum ADSL is broken (twice a month) and if they do not get their act together I am switching to MTN.

Come to the party Vodacom!.

They're all a ripoff. This is why I will avoid using mobile data like the plague. Only time I will use it is if I am desperate to do mobile banking on my smartphone. I won't even use it for email or mxit (dont use either on my phone).

Use MTN 3G for work but Vodacom for private ... and very limited usage at their pricing.

Lets stop talking about OOB rates, they mean nothing unless you are too stupid to manage your data bundles.

Well, if everyone gets uncapped ADSL (which is MUCH more affordable now) and everyone opens their AP's to give Internet to whomever is in their shop, then the reason for getting 3G cards will disappear.
These okes are going hurt themselves by keeping their prices this high. Soon, their pricing will most probably drop.

Anyway, we'll see....
