Mobile data prices compared

Q. Can I add the MTN data contract promotion to my existing AnyTime350 contract?

A. No.

If you have an AnyTime contract the prices are:
  • 500MB/R119 vs R39
  • 1GB/R149 vs R69
  • 2GB/R245 vs R99

Why is 1GB on CellC w/o modem more expensive than 2GB w/o modem on contract in the table? o_O

The 2GB price is a promotion, but they do not have a 1GB promotion.

Ah OK, maybe just add a column in which you indicate which prices are promotional and which are not? Otherwise the table is rather confusing. :)

Nice table but one very very important omission since here it appears 8ta is expensive yet for R199 you get 10gb which is cheaper than its 2gb contracts, this makes it relevant to the article IMO.

that's because you must submit yourself to a separate 24 months examination to see those prices. can we have a comparison of prepaid and bolt please.
Vodacom and their OOB shark will of course lead that pack - they are now the most expensive every time.

Wanted the usual 1GB data on Cell C last night for R155 and got 1.3 GB instead :)

Very convenient that these bundles can't be applied to existing voice contracts - I guess it costs them more to have a cell tower send/receive data via a SmartPhone than via a 3G dongle...

I dont get it cell c's 2gig contracts are cheaper than the 1 gig? makes no sense?? or am i missing something

MTN highlighted that its previous 2GB contract promotion was in the market for around 17 months before being replaced by this new deal.

A lot has happened in 17months

Cell C is basically not catering for the 1gb contract market they are catering for 500mb at R45 and for double the price R99 you get 4 times the data i.e 2gb.

The R155 pricing is merely available on contract but targeted more at normal smartphone users that want to ad 1gb to their existing contract or prepaid sim. They for example don't advertise their 1gb contract in the newsletters etc they only advertise their 500mb contract and 2gb contract and the price difference between the two is so small that if you wanted 1gb you might as well take the 2gb at a good price.
