Mobile data users losing out

So then Wou da kom Free Gee - can you say "flatrate" ? :p

He already said it would be too expensive.

Did you read the thread before you posted?

Vodacom buys in bits/second but sells in bundles of bytes. Converting between the two creates the complications.

If we sold in bits/s it would make everything much easier and there would be no caps, roll-over, etc.

But no-one would be able to afford it.

Obviously they will not charge the same rate for end users as they are paying for the bandwidth. And with obviously I mean that it is pretty obvious and you missed it despite its obviousness :p

Just as a lot of math and stats (and greed:mad:) went into their calculations of the current databundle sizes and tarrifs the same will need to be done for a flatrate connection.

Just remember economy of scale - the better the price is. the more people pay the flatrate fee, the sooner they cover their expence and start to show a profit.

MY understanding (and original request) is that it's open at IP level, i.e. you can run whatever you want over IP.

The issue with the various APN's is not that we don't acknowledge other OS's. For sure we do, I use all of them.

Rather it's an issue with creating various permutations of APN's and then maintaining them.

If you don't want it, just put up your own firewall. It won't really stop it, just block it.

Anyway you look at it, 3G bandwidth is expensive.

But you do sell in bits/s, but bill in bytes, isn't that true? Emphasis on the lightning fast speeds, but not on the cap or how fast it goes?

It's like having a Superbike but you can only afford a top end run for a minute or 5, then you have to pack it away until next month.

MTN is the biggest sinner when it comes to data bundles. I hit them back though. Not only I did cancel my own contract but so did my wife. Furthermore I am only recommending and setting up vodacom internet to all my customers.(I am a pastime cell geek and help with setting up data networks). Mtn wrongfully took R3217 from my account but I got all of it back from them (my away) And no I did not steal - just took back illegally what they 'legally' stole from me in the first place. And yes it can be done if you are really good :D you just need extensive knowledge of internet protocols and settings.
