Mobile TV on its way

Last edited:
hehe... I knew this was coming :)

.. and MTN is not the only one waiting for it. :p

I don't see this happening, since SABC has the rights and they are in bed with government. Sad though, since Multichoice has already spent so much money to install the towers. One of our high sights has recently received one of these MTN/Multichoice Towers. Let me just say that it contains epic equipment.

Nice. Hook it up to TV out and you've got a nice little portable decoder... or does that constitute violation of the license agreement?

I think they'll let the TV licence/Cellphone licence go in that respect because
the output definition you'll get on a bigger screen will look worse than a CAM movie. :)

Yea, no one has 42" cellphone screens. Yet. :D

RPM, I don't mean to sound facetious, but it would make a welcome change if you guys would report on things that have actually happened rather than things that are going to, maybe, possibly, imminently, happen.

DVB-H has to happen by the time the World Cup kicks off as the Local Organising committee ala Danny Jordaan signed an agreement with FIFA stipulating that mobile TV services have to be in place.

One way or another we'll be seeing this service happen by then, even if government has to step in to move ICASA along with regards to licensing.

There would be so little to report the site would die a slow death.

They've been testing this since like 2005 :D

18 January 2006

On 1 December 2005 Vodacom launched the first Mobile TV entertainment service on Vodafone live! 3G cellphones. From 16 January, Vodacom customers in South Africa can watch two new TV channels, Sky NEWS and HBO, as well as the hit TV series ‘24’, which is now available on the Fox channel.

Who the hell wants to watch TV on their cellphones,

I am eying a 42" LCD cos my 32" is getting too small.

watching tv on a cellphone is just ridiculous, except maybe if the bokke are playing and you really have to go to the toilet, hehehe

PSP size screen still ok but anything smaller I just would not want to watch.

sorry but a screen that small and at that price? you got to be kidding!
