Modifying a RCT2000VA UPS with an External charger

After reading/following this entire thread - why don't you just buy proper inverter and charger? Doesn't seem worth the hassle.

I myself already ordered a 3kw inverter . I have done the same as OP 24 V Battery , 750va ups , solar charger etc
What I found is that my ups thinks bateries is 70% discharged , where my calculations and measurements showed 10% used
New inverter will solve this problem ( no hack job)

I was thinking about going this route with the ellies 1200w inverter, but not sure about the inverter charger. Is the ellies one good enough

I think we in the exact same boat. My batteries also show about 70% discharged. Where did you buy your inverter and cost

Will a pure sine wave use exactly the same wattage as advertised like a 1000w what can take a load of 1000w. Let's say I buy me an inverter without a built in charger. Can I use it conjunction with the 3 step I have and hook them up together.

Most have a rating in va and watts

Some inverters have a peak rating and a wats rating too
Peak means it can provide a higher power for a short duration (seconds)
Some devices will draw less power on a pure sine wave than modified sine wave
But pure sine wave is less efficient than modified
The combined package is normally more efficient together

Multimeter on 10A. What does this mean for the internal charger

I only took the reading this morning. Had loadshedding of 2h30. Battery cannot be full.

When full meusure the charging current via ups again .
Would want to see if it current is lower when battery guaranteed 100% full

Got an update for you.
I charged it with the 3 stage charger and it took about 3 hours. When I used it yesterday it was just less then 3 hours.
Took measurement before charging and it was 0.52 and after charging with external charger it showed 0.52, but then drop to 0.42 . So it look likes it keeps dropping. Dunno how far still. Should I still run it on the internal charger and test it every few minutes.

What does this mean though?

Battery still takes a little bit of float charge
The current can still drop a bit
Next time do this just after power came back
As your bateries was already nearly full when you meusured the current this morning (was it on charge overnight ?)
Remember to not leave meter on 10A hole will can blow fuse if conect leeds over bat + and -


The lower the current the fuller the batteries
