I haven't used reason much but I have tried it and I found Ableton much quicker to use.

Logic is much better yes, but if you plan to pay that much for it spend extra on a macpro as well I say.

Logic is a bargain compared to most DAW software. Other cheap options are Reaper and Presonus Studio One. Reaper is absolutely awesome value for money and will run very well on a macbook pro.
