More car problems because of technology

Sometime they cram things in the engine bay like your ABS modulator, so that you don't end up cramming your engine bay in another car's boot.

Actually one can handle the boost and fueling for a "turbo system", as you put it, just fine on a Carb fed car with no engine management software...It's just more of a hassle.

Well all you're going to be doing is moving from electronic control to mechanical control.
So instead of retarding the ignition timing electronically under high boost (to avoid detonation) you're going to have to do it mechanically which isn't always cheaper or more reliable IMO.
Carburettor systems are terrible compared to EFI - they cannot be tuned for maximum efficiency over the full RPM range like an EFI system can.

This is why I love my Z. No fancy electronics and gimmicks that will break and cost a fortune to repair after a few years. No turbo as well. N/A is the way to go for reliability. Think the only major electronics is the traction control, electric windows and aircon. Don't know if they even count as electronic :)

The sad part of it all is that these manufactures does not provide the necessary skills to their after sales people. They are just as dumbfounded when these new gadgets break.
One should have the option to switch off all unnecessary units.
Wait till these cars get older. Everything starts to break and nobody to fix it or it cost an arm and leg to replace:twisted:.
:)Yipee more money for the manufactures.
It's a long-term conspiracy.

problem is, it cost money to train the mechanics/techies.

Another problem is - in the older cars you could strip some components (for example, your windshield wiper gearbox/engine assembly) in order to service these - nowadays these are factory sealed and need be replaced with a full unit.

It is also easier (and quicker) just to replace the electronic component(s) [expensive] instead of tracing the fault [cheaper].

And so we generate more garbage by the day.
We dump an entire unit instead of just replacing a small broken component. This is very common with electrical units.
I once replaced two relays (cost about R400) on circuit board to fix it whereas the new component (BMW G5 box that controls central locking, wipers and elec windows)cost R5k
All we need is some entrepreneurs with the necessary skills to cash in on these opportunities.
