More Power Cuts from Eskom

ic, I feel the same. Bryanston has had far too many "load shedding incidents".

I've yet too see Eskom themselves do anything to help. Anyone who drives past Eskom Megawatt Park in the evening will notice the huge flood lights which can be seen as far as Midrand and the office lights which are left on 24/7.

An aircon uses barely more electricity than a fridge, even when heating, since it is simply a heat exchanging device. The fans use more power than the compressor.

Dunnow about these industrial aircon-types used by companies.

I've seen those, looks like a massive stadium on the horizon at night. Ironic, I suppose.

My double door LG fridge/freezer uses a fraction of the 3.35 kW (4.05 kW heating) my smallest aircon says it takes.
 
I'm wondering what the power consumption is like at Luthuli House and the ministerial residences, and what would happen if they experience a permanent bout of load shedding - generators cannot be run 24*7 can they?
 
Who was the wise guy here the other day that mentioned CT hasn't had any load shedding in a while. It happened today :( Took me 45 mins to get home and I only live 10 mins from work. Seems people can't navigate past traffic lights when they're out. Its a stop street people!!!

I see they're phasing out incandescents in Australia and the UK, but not everyone is going to be happy:

Those stats at the bottom are very interesting. If one assumes a tenth of the households they quote there, (dunno if that's too optimistic), the energy savings would nearly equal the power shortfall of 2500MW we had today.
 
AFAIK Eskom subsidizes the energy saving bulbs heavily atm.

Had a weird thought today: The car insurance companies must be cr@pping themselves atm with 7 more years of dead traffic lights to come.

With the way the usual idiot driver drives, dead traffic lights are safer.
The number of people who accelerate through red and go before green is frightening.

You can get both bayonet and screw-in energy saving globes. I swapped my entire house about four years ago and noticed the difference in my bill. There is an initial expense in the outlay although the price is dropping all the time. You should be able to get an energy saving globe for around R15.00 now (equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent globe).

I meant that the people coming around with the exchange program did not have both types. I do know that one can purchase both types.
 
And another bout of load shedding has just started in my area - just in time for rush hour traffic :rolleyes:.
 
Anybody in Sandton, load shedding just kicked in.

Its gonna be chaos getting out of sandton now!!!

What I want to know is what idiot decides that rush hour traffic is an excellent time to do load shedding - I would love to know that person's name and have a picture to photoshop some devil horns onto.

It's madness.
