Summer is a critical period for Eskom because we do routine maintenance of our plant," said chief executive Jacob Maroga.
Once again its not all Eskoms fault. They wanted to add a station and Govenment wouldnt give them permission.
I blame Government when eskom wanted to put up new stations they said no. Now we have to wait to 2012 before another station is operational and thats a maybe.
I still don't get how power usage is calculated. It seems that more electricity is being used in summer than in winter? It doesn't make sense as electricity gobblers like geysers use a lot more power in winter than in summer. I sat at for 2.5 hours at a petrol station waiting for the power to come back just so that I can get enough diesel for a 200km trip back home.
I think the whole load shedding business is a ploy by Eskom to force Government's hand. Seems like Joe Public isn't pissed-off enough...yet.
Aircons?
Maybe - but I doubt an Aircon compensates for the extra geyser load, heaters, lights, kettles etc.
And, Eskom themselves have said that summer usage is lower than winter.
Eskon did attempt to alleviate the problem by exchanging energy savers with incandescents - perhaps it's time for them to do it again. In europe, many countries have banned the sale of incandescent globes.
In ZA the guavament has not even mentioned such a power saving step.

Eskom uses the percieved lower usage of summer to do routine and planned maintenance.
But you only have to look around for the number of people who installed aircon at home during the past 2 or 3 years to realise that power consumption did increase quite a lot during summer compared to winter.
Hmmm, load shedding on Saturday and today in my area, when exactly is the load shedding going to rotate away from my area...Load shedding would be implemented on a rotational basis nationally, Eskom said, adding that it would continue to update consumers on the supply situation.
