How do you pay for the account if you sit at home watching HD movies all day? Coz that's the only way you could actually make use of that much data.

LOL. I am a bit tired, but more tired of *******s that download crap just for the sake of it. All it does is make uncapped unfeasible in SA's current IT climate.
Even with two people using my line who use youtube and steam a crapload and torrents an average of a season of a series a month in 720p my usage stays around 120-200gigs.
Anyone who downloads more must really have no life at all, living in their mom's basement.

I'm still averaging about 600 Gigs a month over one uncapped account and two capped accounts (30 Gigs and 60 Gigs). OpenWeb, WebAfrica and Afrihost. Business and Residential.
Of that, about 180 Gigs goes to online gaming, steam updates and game purchases for 3 people.
The rest is HD content, series and movies.
Youtube vids (usally also in HD).
Skype video conferencing (about 1 to 2 hours a day).
Online backups for two companies that I am servicing to four different online backup systems.
Gmail for about 8 people.
Full Windows Updates for about ten computers a month, including new computers I sell to customers.
& Etc.

1080p is on average about 10GB for about 2 hours of content, so a user doing over 200GB (down), who only watches 1080p and never watches anything twice, is downloading enough to keep him busy for over 40 hours a month.
One has to wonder if we are blaming one "monopoly" for the sins of another. Content really can be distributed more efficiently, but it seems it is not in the best interest of those who have the rights to legally supply the content to do so, so instead we demand the ability to download (usually "illegally") as much as we can via less efficient means.

there are clearly two schools of thought here on the forum. the fence that divides the two is quite large.. with spikes... and barbed wire... and electric fencing... perhaps a gattling canon or two
one feel that they pay, therefore they deserve or are entitled to download 800GB a month. they definitely have grounds to feel like that, its just not the big picture though
the other feels that yes you pay, and you can download what you wanna, but unless you really have no life whatsoever there is little point in such excessive downloading, placing additional strain on an already crappy network. then we land up with the congested exchanges etc etc
comes down to how selfish you are really, and what you using your internet for.

Life is too short to worry about why someone is downloading large amounts of data and whether they watch it all or not and if they life in their mother's basement or not. Who cares?! if you want to download the internet then why not.
Telkom should come to the party and fixup the congested exchanges.
I suppose the same line of thought can be put towards the whole Eskom save electricity thing. If you save enough electricity then Eskom think they are doing good job and don't need to upgrade. I think its all BS.
