CentOS is fabulous, either as server or as desktop.

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Ubuntu has, but rock-solid and fast. I wouldn't recommend it for home use, but for office use it's tops.

I have to concur - CentOs is my weapon of choice - Have been using is since 2004 and not one, NOT ONE issue!! EVER !! Its the mutts nuts!!

Ubuntu is great (desktop only) but I'm a command line interface type of guy !! :)

I only have 4 servers running linux and all are running CentOS.
However I prefer BSD. Currently FreeBSD but have a soft spot for OpenBSD.

Also running most of our servers on CentOS, some on Gentoo, all desktops are either Ubuntu 10.4 or Mint.

@kevinswan007: So Ubuntu picks up the WiFi adapter but it isn't seeing any APs?

Just because it gets 10gazillion hits on distrowatch does not make it the best, you could use the same reasoning for windows. If I had to recommend a distro to a linux newcomer it would be linux Mint.

They didn't say it was the best, they said it was the MOST POPULAR.

Anyway, back to the point - used to run Mint cos I was a noob (and lazy) and found it more convenient than Ubuntu, but now I run it cos I prefer the default themes (as I said, too lazy to install custom themes etc.)
I still keep 1 box running Ubuntu tho. New versions of both are very nice, esp for newbs

surprized at all the comments about centos , imo ubuntu lts sever is a better option, unless you running oracle , ubuntu server tends to be just as stable with out comming with a patched up el kernel that is like a year old
