I finished the app while having some tea and it generates passwords along the lines of this:

I reckon that's fairly secure

Oh, windows account passwords are worthless btw, even if you use a 255 character string consisting of the Klingon Alphabet combined with a base 18 numeric system and alt function keys from the mind of rainman

Companies are much to blame and basically force employees to use weak passwords by forcing them to change passwords every month. Some companies won't allow you to use the same password for x-amount of changes. So people then use easy to remember passwords like "joebloggs1" then joebloggs2, etc. I believe let people use a strong password and let them change it as they feel is necessary.

I agree with this, so irritating, they use that system at the college I'm at, often I foget my passwords (hmmm, which one did I use.... oh no, not that one, i changed it, hmmmm....)

One of my corperate client is using a DOMAIN password of one of those on the list. Thats bad form if you ask me...

Keeppass generates a password (using all available options) like:

You can store all your other passwords in there too. I use it to generate passwords for wireless networks.

I use the portable version of Keeppass on a flash drive - copy and paste FTW. Besides that was just an short example - on wireless APNs and wireless portion of ADSL I use the maximum characters allowed, I think it is 160.

Yeah, but most bboards require a password made up of keyboard characters only. And then it often excludes the _ character.

I use the same password formula for every single website that I visit!

It's really quite simple, and you can do it as well.

1) Choose a strange word that you like, maybe a nickname or something. e.g. Mickey

2) Change all of the following letters in the chosen name. e.g. i --> 1; e --> 3; o --> 0

3) Add the first letter of the website that you are currently visiting. e.g. MyBroadband --> M

4) Capitalise the chosen nickname as well as the letters of the website.

5) Choose three random digits that you will always remember e.g. 007

6) Add the third letter of the website that you are currently visiting. e.g. MyBroadband --> B

7) Put a 1 at the end.

The final result would be : Mickey --> M1ck3y --> M1ck3yM007B1

It kinda looks very random, but if you remember your formula, you can generate a "unique" password for any website that *looks* unique ...

If somebody finds out your MyBroadband password, then they won't be able to use it to gain access to your GMail account, since they are different, and they probably won't figure out that the "M" and the "B" in your password identify the MyBroadband website.

www.gmail.com --> M1ck3yG007A1

www.standardbank.co.za --> M1ck3yS007A1

www.news24.com --> M1ck3yN007W1

not once have I seen "sex" or "god" used as a password...

I use an 8 character password with lower caps and numbers...... I've also used brute force to try and get past it...... there are 3.25x10^32 possible combinations for that setup and will take a Quad Core computer several weeks to crack, using ie a 1MB zip file..... so for the moment I'm more than safe.
