Most powerful graphics processor in the world

On paper yes but i would like to see some charts before anyone can claim it is faster than the 285 :).

I'll need a powerful salary to be able to afford it!

Not really. They're selling at the same price as the HD4870 when they were first released. (R3500 to R5000 depending on brand)

The GTX 285 runs at 1300MHz as opposed to the 4890’s 1100MHz, and in terms of memory interface the GTX 285 boasts 512-bit in comparison to the 4890’s 448-bit capacity.

Someone needs to let tom know that the 4890 has a 256bit memory interface and that it's the gtx260 and gtx275 that have a 448bit memory interface.

As far as I know the 4890 is not supposed to be the most powerfull. It is just to fill the gap between the 4870 and the 4870x2.

The 295 is not a single chip but 2 the 285 is nvidia most powerful processor.

Exactly.... So the statement holds and this entire article is irrelevant.

295 achieve speeds by squeezing two GTX 200-based GPUs into a single product via two sandwiched-together PCBs.

I'm still a bigger fan of Nvidia, they get it right all the time and their products have never once let me down. This new card of AMD's looks great.... but I need a bit more convincing really.

I take it you just skipped the 5series graphics cards?

Considering that ATI/AMD is going after the main stream market and this card is priced around $150 lower than the 285gtx it's pushing almost the mid to lower top range market, that's quiet a feat. also in terms of power consumption it only required 60W....

here a review

at the moment I don't see the GPU being much of a hype as ATI/AMD's Fusion is the one that is going to shape the future of systems

Ok, now I'm no genius, but I can tell you that statement is horse ****. the Amd HD4890 uses ddr5 which is in a whole new ball game then ddr3(which the Nvidia chips use).

So the HD4890 used a 256bit interface.

IMHO, this article is a load of drivel and it can't be taken seriously...

Btw, wasn't april fools 2 days ago

scotty777 might be abit harsh but he is right.

The 4890 does not have a 448bit memory interface it uses a DDR5 256bit interface.

It costs less than a GTX 285 ( about R 3800 ) is the first price for it ive seen in SA.

The reviews ive seen so far it performs in the range of the GTX 280/285 and sometimes beats the later.

Also the overclock potential on these seem te be very good .

So who do I need to send my adverts in to get them shown on Mybb? Or is that only for high profile company's like ATI?

hmmm... thing is that this is still using the same old gpu from the 4800 series, only with a few tweaks to make it a little faster... Honestly, I was expecting a lot more from ATI, and I was expecting something with 960 processor units, and about 1.5 gflops.

ATI/AMD now know that they are ahead of Nvidia, and instead of utilizing the amazing architecture that they have stumbled across, they rather just overclock existing tech.

AMD and Nvidia are playing the same game now, where instead of developing something new, they just selling the same technology only with higher clocks.

I just hope they both can get their act's together and pull something useful out. I do hope that the HD5800 series has about 1400-1600 unit processors on board and the GT300 series has about 400-500 unit processors so as to re-ignite the market, otherwise people won't see any reason to upgrade there graphics.

I think both sides are focusing to much on bandwidth, and that could mean they aren't doing enough with the general tech of the gpu. It's all good and well having 200gb's/s bandwidth, but the gpu's aren't going to be efficient enough to handle the bandwidth and so then you end up with bottle necking and that serves as much purpose as having hair on your tongue...

Not sure what reviews you have been checking but the guru one posted here, it loses to the 260 so in theory the 280-285 will thump it.
AMD made the same mistake when they were ahead of intel at one point, instead of developing they just charged more and did not develop and fell far behind, scotty you are right they should be looking to bring home the advantage.

think its loses some to the GTX275...it beats the 260 in most of the benchies unless I'm seeing wrong.

Either way...the price war between the 275 and 4890 already started like the first two days...hopefully it'll drop significantly when I get my next upgrade :D
