Mother in Law Problem

Guys...

While "your house your rules" apply for most...
It seems to me that the OP lives in a house that belongs to his mother-inlaw.

So for him to get back to "your house your rules" he should pay her a fair rent cos then he is no longer "obliged to nothing" as the house is then a business agreement.

Your wife needs to start compromising and your MIL needs to clean up her shyte.
You're the man, you make the rules. Put up or fukof.

I actually feel sick after the reading the OP

/showers.

Where does he say it's his MIL house?

Where does he say it's his MIL house?

Quote from the OP:
My mother in law and father in law had a large plot which was divided with two homes on the plot (75% their home and 25% brother in law's home). After he passed away my mother in law would stay with us for 2 weeks and then 2 weeks again with them

More quote:

keep in my my mother in law did not see a single penny and they would spend all the money monthly

Nowhere does the OP say the homes have been reregistered seperately.

The OP's wife, and her brother, each with their partners/families were permitted to reside in the homes while sharing the responsibility of looking after the old folk.

Do subtle things to make it less convenient for her to be there ;)

Build her her own bathroom.

I'd get my own place if I were you. If the wife doesn't like it, then you're better off without her anyway.

I understood the main house on the plot is rented out and the sister lives off the rental in the second house on the property.

Thought OP has a third house that is not on the piece of land.

The OP needs to clarify if he is staying in the 75% house because he said "their" and not our.
If true OP is living off the in laws, so their rules need to apply. Their property their piss and shyte.

Live with it or get your own place with your wife.

why the **** is he listening to her direction it terms of spending his own money? he is leka j...

That's how I read it too. Nothing to clarify, it's pretty straightforward...

Main house (75%) is rented out by his sister-inlaw, while he the husband of his wife, and his wife (daughter of mother inlaw) live rent free on the 25%.

Seems like the OPs brother inlaw started renting out the 75% house in order not to look after his own mother. But the brother inlaw(brother to OPs wife)and his wife (OP sister inlaw) rented out the 75% house that belongs to mother inlaw, lived off the proceeds in another house elsewhere, but refused to look after the old lady, while basically "eating" money that should have gone to the old lady (mother inlaw) as it is her house still.
After brother to OP's wife died the sister-inlaw continued the rental sponging.
And OP and his wife have all the responsibility, which is hard work.
Seems like the old lady needs a care home and if both houses were rented out and the proceeds run through a trust for the old lady, the trust could cater for her care.
So I'm saying the money going to the sister inlaw must go to the old lady, and the OP should pay rent for his occupation in property he does not own.

I'm more concerned about the sister in law who is making all the money off the mother's estate and then insists on not looking after her at the same time.

Surely that should be a fair trade right there?

Let me guess...this is all some rural dorpie somewhere?

If this is correct OP's living rent free in MIL's house. Her house, her rules.

How dare he contemplate kicking her out of her own house, she probably can't wait for him to move out.

Believe me this happens in cities too.

Where family and money are concerned the most ruthless one, the one without a conscience always scores financially.

That's why I am encouraging a trust. Seems like the old lady needs better care than the OP and his wife can provide.
Both houses rented out should cover the costs of a care place for the old lady.

So even if OP moves elsewhere and both places get rented out to cover her expenses.
The money will after all be coming from the old lady granny's property rentals back to the old lady granny.

The OP and his wife and then the sister inlaw on the otherside can then inherit either the homes or share the proceeds should the property be sold once the old lady granny is not around anymore.

Just clarify ,I have my own house on a separate piece of land

Mother in law - 2 Homes on the plot
Me-My own house paid off in full

I am fully independent from them if they go or stay it doesnt affect me
