Yes. Wasn't apparent in Kikat but for lollipop was a definite lag that has come in. To be honest, the extra 1gb ram make it worthwhile for an upgrade, the extra 8gb flash is a bonus. My current MotoG already has 16 GB ram
Okay will go for the one with 2gb ram then thanks :).

If I may ask, how will you be getting it here? Amazon doesn't currently ship the 16/2 gig version here and the prices in Europe are a lot higher than their US counter part. I'm looking at getting this phone end of this month.

If you want to order one right now, then the Motorola store is your only option, I think: http://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-g

Then you'd need a shipping forwarding company to get it here. After shipping and VAT it's going to end up being quite expensive, no? R3192 + shipping.

I'm in no rush and will be waiting for Orange to stock it :).

I think I'll also wait for Amazon/Orange to stock it and see which one is cheaper. Was going to order the second gen with some accessories for about the same price as the Orange store when the 3rd one came out :)

Assuming they will stock the 2gb version? They are already stocking the 1GB.

It's overpriced. I wouldn't pay that much for a crappy SD410 in 2015, not when there are cheaper phones with SD615 or decent mediatek chips with 1080p screens.

Hey guys, I decided to do a little research regarding getting this device over here from the States and the pricing is as follows:

Exchange Rate is currently $1 = R12.82

Moto G 3rd Gen (16/2gig)
$219 : R2807.24

MyUS Shipping Rates
MyUS Shipping PartnerTimeframeBasic Membership CostPremium Membership Cost
DHL Express1-4 Business DaysR690.18R575.13
FedEx Economy5-10 Business DaysR628.17R523.50
FedEx Priority1-4 Business DaysR783.45R652.90
UPS Expedited2-8 Business DaysR918.10R765.13
UPS Wordwide Saver1-4 Business DaysR1246.73R1038.92

Basic Membership Cost
  • 5 days free package storageFree repacking to protect & reduce weight
  • Free repacking & package consolidation to reduce shipping costs
  • No Monthly Fee
  • $10/R128.18 one time setup fee

Premium Membership Cost
  • 30 days free package storage
  • Free repacking to protect & reduce weight
  • Free package consolidation for maximum shipping savings
  • $7/R89.73 Monthly Fee
  • $20/256.37 One time Setup fee

Customs and Duty Tax

According to FTW Online and Duty Calculator, they say there should be no Customs Tax.

Using Godada Customs Import and Duty Calculator I get R431.57 for Import Duties and Tax.

Totals
Using the cheapest options for both Basic and Premium memberships, both FedEx economy, my totals are R3999.16 for Basic and R4108.41.

Seems like it's totally not worth getting the 16/2 gig version for more than R1000 the Orange store has for the 8/1gig when the actual price differnce is only $40/R512.74.

Edit: The Orange Store has a markup of R435.5 for the 8/1 gig version, going with this value, the 16/2 gig version should be around R3242.74, a lot cheaper than importing. Patience is the best, I think with this device.

Howzit,

I would like to buy the moto g 2gb model and the cheapest seems to be in India:http://www.flipkart.com/moto-g-3rd-...08&srno=p_1&query=Moto+g&otracker=from-search

Can anybody give advice regarding forwarding a package from India to SA?

Cheers.
1. That link points to the 3rd gen one
2. It wants me to install the app on my mobile so I can't see the price :(

Regardless, I own the 3rd gen. Quite an awesome phone. I dunno about importing from India, but Orange might be worth a look for you. I got mine from them in two days.

go to settings in chrome and select request desktop site.

I really want the 2gb model and i cant manage with 8gb internal memory. I contacted orange and they will not be selling the 2gb model of the moto g 3rd gen.

Hi @Hamster, would you mind providing the dimensions for the box the phone came in? I decided to use Postbox Courier. Hopefully Motomaker will have the 16 gig in stock by end of the month.

The moto g 2gb model doesnt seem to be any cheaper via ebay, $300 including getting it here via dhl.

Buying the more expensive 2gb model doesnt make sense financially.

The Sony M4 aqua has better specs and is R3800 via orange. Sony seems to commit to updates aswell, so you wont feel left behind.
