Moto G

My moto G just arrived here. Brilliant little phone for the price. Camera is not that great, but i knew that before purchasing. The rest is great for a phone under R3k.

Still waiting for 4.4 kitkat update. . . . . . . .

Also received mine today and also no Kitkat yet. Which provider are you using? This little phone is a beast, very fast and snappy despite the 1GB of RAM. The camera...well, if I take 50 photos a year with my phone that's a lot so I am not too fazed :)

Did you order yours from Orange?

Me three :D My Orange order arrived this afternoon with my Moto G (took just two days).

Loving it so far  Think it's going to be a great buy for just under R2,700.

Now, KitKat, any word of a South African release date?

I think because the Moto G's are retail branded and not carrier-branded like overseas (think Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.) we might get out updates a little later than those that are supported by the mobile network operators.

Here's to hoping we get it before the end if the month! The Motorola website states that rollout of 4.4.2 in the US began December 2013 so we should be not too far away ;)

This is what I'm thinking. Samsung Galaxy S5 is nearly out, so I need to get rid of my S4 before it looses too much value.

I really like the Moto X. I know I can't expect the Moto G to be the same as the X, but I read some of you guys have used both the S4 and the Moto G. Truly how different is the experience?

Screen size & quality? Battery?

Really? Have you see how abysmally slow the US carriers are at updating their devices?

The only slightly negative thing I'm hearing about this phone is the camera. Can anyone elaborate on how good/bad it is ?

This phone looks to be the best upgrade for my Desire S. Its at an amazingly good price and the screen size is ideal for me. Really want to get one.

Took some photos outside my house. Compare for yourself!

EDIT: The photos are compressed, they look much better in full res!

This is a UK unbranded retail device so we will get it once it's released in the UK. Apparently the tech blogs reported on it incorrectly as Moto let the support page go live prior to the official release.

I upgraded from the exact same phone - the camera really isn't that bad at all, and the speed increase over the old single core Desire S is phenomenal. I don't have any regrets at all :)

Hope this is the case.

Motorola just announced that all Moto G handsets are ready to be upgraded to Android 4.4.2. So users will now enjoy a faster and more secure phone, full screen mode, the new and improved Hangouts app, and gallery photo editing.

According to this we might be in luck soon :)

But I have read over on XDA that some people report the text wrapping in the browser is not working after the update for some :(

Read on XDA Forums that the update for the UK retail version (Retail.en.GB), which we have (if you got it from orange) is not live yet. It will definitively come later this month.

Retail.en.DE (Germany) and TescoSL.en.GB versions seems to be rolling out as we speak. Will just have to wait....

Those who bought from Orange, did you also get a UK adapter with it? I suppose they include it for the charger but since there isn't a charger in the box and just a USB data cable...what's the use?

Anyways, free UK mains adapter...score :p

Yup, I also got the adapter. I managed to find another device to use it with. Always a shortage.

Battery usage is quite good considering I have not put it down since yesterday :)

Does anyone have a case or any accessories for the moto g?
They seem very scarce in SA. Expansys has but they are the only place I have found so far. No screen protectors either :/
