Moto G

I don't understand how the price of the 8Gb has remained the same while the 16GB has gone up by R200.

Anyone else have an issue with KitKat where the data transmission arrows when on mobile data do not show up near the status bar? Mine shows my signal bar and the H+ or 3G or E icon but no arrows up and down

I think this is standard behaviour of KitKat - seen complaints about this on numerous forums

If you open the status menu with a swipe down from top right - where brightness, settings, auto rotate etc show - I see the transmission arrows on my live WiFi connection - my Nexus 7 don't have 3G, so not sure what happens then

Meh...what a pity. It was nice to see if maybe a background app is zapping your data so you could go close it. Also sometimes if I lose signal I needed to disable mobile data and enable it again to get the arrows to indicate data transmission again. I wonder why they decided to remove it? Yet if I go into the quick options in the notifications window it shows up fine...

I got mine on Friday and am loving it. I have a problem where it reboots occasionally and contacted orange to arrange for a return. Now that they are no longer selling it I wonder if they will give me a replacement which I want. I'll give them a call to find out. If they plan to give my money back I'll probably just keep it. Nothing on the market seems to compare at this price point.

It seems Orange SA will no longer sell the phone here because they don't have ICASA approval:

I called them about my reboot problem, their response is that they can refund me, but not give me another device which is not what I want. So I either have to live with a reboot a day or downgrade to something else. At 3k I cant find anything else that isn't a downgrade.

So last night my phone fell out of my hand and landed on its side. Now the power button is broken, it is pushed in completely and no response. Phone is still working but I can't turn it off. But when it is of I will not be able to turn it on again! If I take it back to orange will they be able to send it in for repairs?

I was thinking of manually opening the phone to have a look, maybe it is just bent or something. Don't know how that will affect any warranty.

This sucks balls. I was just about to order a 16gb now they not available anymore. The choice of phones in this country is dismal. I really don't want a Samsung, Sony is to overpriced and I'm not very fond of LG. Miss the old days when we had choice.

on kitkat?

on kitkat?

Yes, on KitKat. I did a factory reset and only installed a couple of apps, so far the phone hasn't rebooted and its been just over two days. So it looks like it was one of the apps that was the issue. I'll report back in a week.

Wow, I can't believe that you have to seek ICASA's approval for a phone in these modern times. Any day now the FPB is going to start asking for OSes to be rated or something.

Does someone know how to turn the moto g on without using the power button?

Power button broken?

This should help somewhat: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en
But in order to always work, it must prevent your phone from going into a deep sleep state (power saving). I think this will cause significant battery drain.

Another alternative might be to look at rooting and trying to map the power button to another hardware button: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464 I'm not sure if other buttons will work if the device is in deep sleep.

My phone is on now and i am using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.maicas.android.wsleep&hl=en to get the screen on for a unlock. Works pretty good. I looked at the key-mapping, but for that i need to restart the phone, without a power button its not that easy, waiting for the battery to drain will shut it down, but how do i get it on?

Some people say if you remove the battery of an android phone and put it back it restarts automatically. Moto G has non removable battery YAY! If i know there is a way for booting it up, say holding down both volume rockers to get into recovery and then do a reboot from there or anything, i will be more than happy!

Maybe if any of you guys with a Moto G can try some ways for turning it on without a power button that would be great!!

EDIT:
Ive read that if you hold both volume rockers down and insert a USB cable while still holding down it will go in recovery mode, can someone please confirm?
