Motsoaledi: Big pharma's 'satanic' plot is genocide

Ok. :D Here's the point. IP only has value as far as people are prepared to honour it. "Owners" of IP will play up the property rights angle for all it's worth but at the end of the day intellectual property is only a concept. An idea is copied and propagated as soon as someone else hears that idea. Anything that can be digitised is similarly prone to dissemination. Basically once and idea is out there you'd have to be a retard to not try and copy it. If that idea means the difference between life and death or even just quality of life to someone they'd have to be suicidal or masochistic not to copy it. In fact, once you have the means to copy and idea you would have to hate yourself not to copy it if it meant the difference between suffering without the benefits of said idea or simply copying it and improving your life. The Chinese (please excuse my insensitivity with the attempt at approximation of the Chinese accent for humorous purposes) have quote rationally decided to actively ignore the self-defeating (for the human race) concept of intellectual property.

TL;DR it's just very anti-intellectual to suffer because of the concept of intellectual property. IP protects income streams not property.

Ah, right. :p

Well anyway, I caught Bruce's interview with the journalist that wrote this on 702 earlier. Seems there's a group of American Pharma executives that did concoct some cynical, backroom deal to subvert efforts of making medicine more affordable and rationalising the IP process with regards to medicine. Even going so far as to try and manipulate our relationships with other countries, for example.

Well, there you go then. When there is money to be made from some intellectually and morally dodgy means there will be a conspiracy to corrupt society in order to profit someone in some or other way. It's just human nature driven by one of our basic instincts: greed.

The beauty of the Chinese attitude to IP is that it they're strong enough to pull it off. Given the choice of being a consumer and paying whatever the market will allow or simply ignoring the concept of ownership of ideas why would anyone choose consumerism? Morality? Because it's the right thing to do? Fcck off. The truth is that for the majority of human existence the value of an idea was dictated by the ability to implement the idea more efficiently than anyone else or for the originator of the idea to keep the process of manufacture or implementation of the end product secret. In this day and age of reverse engineering the only way to ensure the value of an idea is to be able to kick the **** out of or similarly harm anyone who dares copy your idea. The only way to protect IP is to make thought a crime.

...ignoring the concept of ownership of ideas ...
Yep, that's the way to social and economic progress. We know from history that innovators, inventors and creative entrepreneurs will graft their guts out for little or no return other than the consolation that they're delivering a social service.

The only way to protect IP is to make thought a crime.
You misunderstand both the I and the P in IP Law. The legal barriers are not to intellection but to actions.

I support our Minister 100% on this vitally important issue affecting the health and well-being of South Africans. The pharmaceutical industry has a innate economic interest to obstruct, suppress and discredit any information about the eradication of diseases.

The pharmaceutical industry makes over one trillion dollars from selling drugs for ongoing diseases. These drugs in most cases relieve symptoms (read most package inserts under 'indications') , but they do not cure or reverse disease.

We have to realize that the mission of the pharmaceutical industry is to make money from ongoing diseases. The cure or eradication of a disease leads to the collapse of a multi-billion dollar market of pharmaceuticals.

As a direct consequence of the international pharmaceutical complex, more people have died from preventable disease than in all wars of mankind combined.

Considering this unhealthy state of affairs, the urgency for a new health care is obvious. The liberation from this insane yoke of the pharmaceutical industry will immediately and directly benefit millions of people, the business community and the public sector of all nations.

Here are some facts worth considering:

1. The pharmaceutical industry is an investment industry driven by the profits of its shareholders. Improving human health is not the driving force of this industry.

2. The pharmaceutical investment industry was artificially created and strategically developed over an entire century by the same investment groups that control the global petrochemical and chemical industries.

3. The huge profits of the pharmaceutical industry are based on the patenting of new drugs. These patents essentially allow drug manufacturers to arbitrarily define the profits for their products.

4. The marketplace for the pharmaceutical industry is your body – but only for as long as the body hosts diseases. Thus, maintaining and expanding diseases is a precondition for the growth of the pharmaceutical industry.

5. A key strategy to accomplish this goal is the development of drugs that merely mask symptoms while avoiding the curing or elimination of diseases. This explains why most prescription drugs marketed today have no proven efficacy and merely target symptoms.

6. Another key strategy to expand pharmaceutical markets is to cause new diseases with drugs. While merely masking symptoms short term, most of the prescription drugs taken by millions of patients today cause a multitude of new diseases as a result of their known long-term side effects. For example, all cholesterol-lowering drugs currently on the market are known to increase the risk of developing cancer – but only after the patient has been taking the drug for several years.

7. The known deadly side effects of prescription drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in the industrialized world, surpassed only by the number of deaths from heart attacks, cancer and strokes (Journal of the American Medical Association, April 15, 1998). This fact is no surprise either, because drug patents are primarily issued for new synthetic molecules. All synthetic molecules need to be detoxified and eliminated from the body, a system that frequently fails and results in an epidemic of severe and deadly side effects.

8. The pharmaceutical “business with disease” is the largest deception and fraud business in human history. The product “health” promised by drug companies is not delivered to millions of patients. Instead, the “products” most often delivered are the opposite: new diseases and frequently, death.

Motsoaledi is correct. Big pharma's business model is a 'satanic' plot of evil speculators and a genocide against the poor.

The pharmaceutical industry makes more profit than any other industry on earth. In fact, it makes more profit than the automobile, chemical and airline industries combined. And these profits are made at the expense of your health.

Just one pharmaceutical company, Pfizer Incorporated, in 2006 had a value of +/- $265 billion dollars, which mirrored the entire GDP in Taiwan, Switzerland and Sweden collectively.

These industries are CRIMINAL!

Viva Motsoaledi, Viva !!!

Vaccines.

KABLURGHBLOOOOOOGHHHHKASMOOOSH!!! (that was the sound of your argument collapsing)

Wherever there have been so-called vaccine triumphs, ALL the diseases they are supposedly targeting were already in a rapid natural decline (a natural cycle of infectious disease). Diseases like polio, typhoid, measles, and tuberculosis were already in significant decline long before vaccines were ever even invented, this being the result of improved hygiene and diet in the developed world over the last 100 years. The majority of third world child deaths still occur despite universal vaccination due to inadequate hygiene and compromised food security.

The pharmaceutical industry has successfully turned each child in the world into a human pin-cushion profit centre through a 'fear based' marketing campaign foisted onto unsuspecting parents by the industry, it's promoters and auxiliary marketers (doctors, pharmacists and even schools).

BTW: I have studied medicine and health politics, plus lectured on the subject of the pharmaceutical industry's shenanigans locally and abroad for over 15 years, so I'm quite qualified in my statements above. No tinfoil hat here mate, just simple facts you can find out for yourself with a bit of effort.

My score card for Motsoaledi : A+

A strategy devised by lobby group Public Affairs Engagement (PAE) for opposing proposed patent laws has been rejected by the Innovative Pharmaceutical Association of SA (Ipasa).

This was confirmed by Ipasa chief operations officer Val Beaumont on Friday.

"Ipasa... has not engaged the consultancy PAE to lobby on intellectual property or any other matter in South Africa," he said in a statement.

The Mail & Guardian earlier reported that Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi described as "genocide" PAE's plans for a campaign against the trade and industry department's Intellectual Property Policy.

No payment

According to the newspaper, the section of the draft policy pertaining to health aimed to weaken protection for drug patents, which would drive down prices for a range of medications, including antiretrovirals and tuberculosis treatment.

Beaumont said: "PAE submitted a proposal for a campaign, which was reviewed and subsequently rejected by Ipasa members and no payment or pledge has been made in any respect".
He said Ipasa, which represents 26 pharmaceutical companies operating in South Africa, had made submissions on the policy and indicated its support for the broad objectives of the draft policy.

"A number of the recommendations outlined in the draft national policy relating to health are already possible through existing legislation... Ipasa has raised questions in the submission on how such existing legislation will be integrated under the proposed policy framework."

Plan for genocide

The Mail & Guardian reported on Friday that the PAE's strategy sought to direct the nature of public discourse around the policy through a massive public relations exercise directed from outside the country.

The PAE plan intended to send the message that the policy could threaten investment and have negative economic and social consequences.

Motsoaledi was angered by the PAE's strategy, outlined in a document seen by the newspaper and his department.
"This document can sentence many South Africans to death," he was quoted as saying.

"That is no exaggeration. This is a plan for genocide."

New infections

Speaking at an event in Durban later on Friday, Motsoaledi did not back down from comments he made to the M&G.

"If drugs become very expensive as this lobby is trying to do, that is not going to be achievable."

He was speaking at the handing over of a report by UNAids that revealed that the death rate, as well as the rates of new infections for HIV/Aids in South Africa had fallen.

He said the fact that the government had brought down the price of antiretroviral drugs had helped it prevent deaths by increasing the number of people receiving ARV treatment. The government aimed to roll out ARV treatment to 4.6 million people by 2016.

Motsoaledi said the explosion of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure would also be affected by attempts to drive up prices.

"If they become too expensive, which country is going to be able afford that? A sophisticated method of doing that is to take treatment away from people by making it unreachable. It's the same thing as biological warfare. It's tantamount to genocide.

"That is why I exploded in anger. I want to defend and protect the people of this country," he said.

This gets funnier and funnier. How conspiracy loons reconcile such utter bullschit in their heads is beyond me. At no point do they actually fact check anything David Icke and Alex Jones tell them...

"I am not using strong words; I am using appropriate words. This is genocide," Motsoaledi told the Mail & Guardian on Thursday, in response to a plan he described as a conspiracy of "satanic magnitude" – a plan he called on all South Africans to fight "to the last drop of their blood".

While I'm sure there is reason for concern, especially since this document that Motsoaledi wants South Africans to sacrifice their blood over in some satanic ritual, is in response to proposed cANCer government legislation, we the people are preoccupied with fighting another one of the cANCer government's monumental stuff-ups and corruption schemes, namely etrolling.

Motsoaledi should take the lead on this one and be the first to sacrifice his blood, maybe the rest of the cANCer party will follow his example.

Ever heard of Free and Open Source software and it's myriad DIY communities? GNU/Linux? GNOME? KDE? Blender?
Granted, many larger projects now have corporate backing, and smaller companies make money by offering services surrounding these technologies, but at the core, the "Intellectual properties" are open and free, and society benefits because of the efforts of volunteers, hobbyists and tinkerers. Whether similar philosophies can be applied to something like medicine are arguable, but we should not discount the possibility up-front, or legislate the possibility out of existence.

If you're such a well receive academic then please disclose yourself, given your reputation it should be an honor to have an expert on this forum that knows more than all the scientists and medical doctors in this country!

Don't come here with your science nonsense, porchrat. All you have to do is wash behind your ears and limit your dairy intake to kill streptococcus pneumoniae. Just ask the "lecturer" from The Boulders Techno University...
