Spectre was kark. 3/10 Feels like they just shot some action in random parts of the world. Can't really see how the story was driving the locations etc....just a pain to watch.

It was pretty meh...found myself wanting more of the lightheartedness that used to be part and parcel of Bond movies. Not sure what the problem was exactly...the cast does a good job, the fight scene with Batista was good, the girl wasn't Eva Green but there's only one of those around.

5/10

how harsh is the dog-fighting stuff? I've seen the other parts of the "trilogy" but avoided this one because of the dog-fighting scenes.

The dog-fighting scenes are also putting me off from pushing play. :)

Landmine Goes Click (2015) 7/10

Surprisingly good indie film. (Very) Dark intense thriller. Some slow parts but the acting & way it came across was good.

Movie doesn't even have a Wiki entry

The Revenant (2015) 8.5/10

Finally got around to watching it & boy was it good; long running time; but properly good.

Leo done an absolutely sterling job...another level. Depth of character off the charts; very impressed with Hardy as well & finally the Ex Machina guy.

The setting is a feast for the eyes; the tension between Leo & Hardy's character; the end fight scene.

That bear rape....shame!

From IMDB:

"Leonardo DiCaprio had to devour a raw slab of bison's liver, even though he is vegetarian. He also had to learn to shoot a musket, build a fire, speak two Native American languages (Pawnee and Arikara), and study with a doctor who specializes in ancient healing techniques. DiCaprio calls it the hardest performance of his career."

That says it all really!

Leo go collect your Oscar (finally)!

Sisters (2015) 6/10

"Two sisters decide to throw one last house party before their parents sell their family home." Running time of 2hrs for a comedy like this is too long & some of the jokes fall flat. Tina Fey cleans up nicely though.

The Revenant (2016) - 6.5/10

Watched it at Eastgate's IMAX. Was waaaaay too long considering how easily the story can be summed up. Not that I didn't enjoy it.

As for Leo, well, I found myself gigling at times because of the scht he does in the film (screw the bear liver, that horse sleeping bag :wtf: ). Felt like he told tne director that he'll do anything and everything possible to get that Oscar :D

Not to mention the rip off. ;)

The Sacrament (2013)

The film borrows heavily from the real life Jonestown Massacre, where on November 18, 1978 the so-called Peoples Temple cult leader, Rev. Jim Jones convinced his 900 or more followers, who were living in an isolated South American jungle community in the country of Guyana, to commit mass suicide by drinking cyanide-laced Flavor Aid once he felt that the commune would no longer stay isolated, just like in the film.

5/10

Ok crime / gangster film. Many others done much better. I don't think Depp nailed that Boston accent most the time .. Would have probably been irritating if he did though.

Ex Machina 6/10. Good story, awesome set & cinematography. But dark. So dark..

Straight Outta Compton (2015) 7.5/10

Very informative look at the formation of NWA & the legacy it left for Hip Hop culture. High energy & top acting by all of the; relatively; unknown main cast.

Crazy People (1977) 6/10

Came across this one by pure chance. Local candid camera-style comedy. It predates Schuster's work by close to 10 years. It's rather cheesy but has some funny moment & one cannot ignore the novelty factor of SA & it's people almost 40 years ago.

One eg. Is a setup involving a drive-in restaurant meal that was not prepared up to standard. Patrons demanding their R2.40 back!

Always thought it was done by Jamie Uys. WTF is Manie Botha?!

I have to say, it being a "black" movie aside, that I thought it deseved an Oscar nomination when I compare it to The Revenant. It really was one of the better movies of the last year.
