Moving back to SA

Maybe if you were one you would have understood. But being both, you missed the point. :o

What is the point? Say it clearly so people can understand. Try keep the personal attacks for your home.

I think some miss the sheltered existence of old. For the majority of SA, the crime situation hasn't changed at all. In fact, for most the standard of living has improved dramatically. Freedom of movement has had the unfortunate consequence of exposing more of us to the realities of SA and the government doesn't think appeasing the middle class a priority.
This is very likely what really happened.

Its not a white people thing, its a some white people thing. Normally from those living in horrible places like Jozi (though not limited to it). I cant understand people who cant make money in SA. Its easier to make money here than most places. The industries are still developing... there should be lots of opportunity for skilled labor.
There is definitely plenty of opportunity.

Since you aren't white, you have nothing to complain about since it's all given to you on a plate.
That's nonsense.

If South Africa is such a horrible place, especially for white people, why do white foreigners continue to move here?

I'm not an intellectual, but I have hobbies that can be called intellectual hobbies in contrast to being called anything else, it just describes a general attitude of interest in sciences, technology, ideas, innovation, art and music and prolific reading and writing vs
television watching, sport, active lifestyle, outdoors living.

I am not educated enough to find a job anywhere, not in South Africa and not overseas.

I have the apartheid Standard 8 certificate.

'cause they can afford to be on the Atlantic Seaboard or the southern suburbs? Also no doubt they have top-notch security to secure their properties. Also most of these foreigners, I would speculate, are over 50 so they've made their money and don't need a job anymore.

Do a TEFL (cheap), go abroad (China/Korea), make cash, come home, buy into a safe community. Live happy :D My friend who had not a cent to his name has just done that. Its a cheap way to to get something behind your name and allows you to travel. When you come back you use the money you made to study something more closer to your heart.

Oh. You could further your education and get your matric, degree, then off you go to 1st world country.

Not true, when I lived at Perspectives in Slaapstad, my neighbors where young german and french folk. In fact, most of my building was young and mobile Europeans. Also, all the doctors from europe and the US trying to get into SA were young (I see them when my wife writes her exams).

I deal with ±60 foreign students ranging from 16 to 30, mostly, every Monday evening. Students from all over who come to learn English and experience SA.

Plenty of young foreigners immigrating here each year, believe you me.

Ones that do township tours, etc...

I guess sometimes one has a better understanding when on the outside looking in. I would love to see them entertaining the crap on CA/News24. :D

Interesting. We all know on these forums that many doctors who are educated in South Africa emigrate after they've qualified here. The earning potential is certainly a lot greater in US/UK. I know someone who is writing her Canadian medical exams while still doing her 2-year internship here.

The country is run by clowns that care more about themselves than anything, and most of the country supports and votes for them.
That describes the leaders and working of many western democracies.

thus I encourage young progessive people to leave if it is a modern and progressive lifestyle they want.
Problem is finding somewhere that is still progressive. Much of the western world seems to be moving steadily away from progressive liberal ideals.

What is the point? Say it clearly so people can understand. Try keep the personal attacks for your home.

First of all, speak in the 1st person. You don't speak for the 'people', so say: 'I don't understand'.

B) Don't tell me where to practice my 'personal attacks'.

Thirdly, what 'personal attacks'? And how do you attack someone personally on an anonymous forum.

Now to get to the point. I was being facetious, pointing out her so-called intellectual and academic endownment were nothing but a front for her cowardice. Cowardice (and fear) quickly leads to hatred. And yes, she does have hatred for this country, however much she would like to deny it, because it is displayed in her highly unpatriotic words. That's why some are saying if you just want to whine then you could leave.

Wrathex, please stop with your victim mentality. You talk about rape. Have you been raped? My wife was raped several times. I don't use it as an excuse to hate this country or anyone else. If I want to leave, I would leave.

No clue. You understood the original point, I think they misunderstand yours.

Nope... "people" was apt.

Try stop me.

By playing the person and not the ball. I dont think you have a clear understanding on whats considered a personal attack around here.

Okay, when you articulate it makes it easier to understand what you are saying.

No, they're all under 40. Those who leave South Africa would also likely be living in the northern and southern suburbs, so that's hardly relevant.

If South Africa is such a horrible place, especially for white people, why do white foreigners continue to move here?

It is probably because foreigners have a distorted view of what life is like here.

I personally know 4 europeans (a German couple and 2 Dutch guys) who have been here for about 5 years, and their attitudes have drastically changed since they got here.

The one dutch bloke is on his way to Oz within the next 2 months, and the remaining ones all have plans to either return soon, or go somewhere else.

They're all professionals, one a business owner, and 3 engineers.

That is the unfortunate reality!

Anyway,
My take on this topic is:
There are more important things in life than "cost of living" and "an awesome climate"! Once you have seen how a country is supposed to be run, and experienced a place where life is worth more than a cell phone, why on earth would you want to keep up with SA?

I'm done living in denial. SA is dysfunctional, and no amount of positive thinking will change that fact. Unfortunately it is going to get worse before it gets better, and I decided to put my wife an I's future above all else.

Edit: wtf, my linebreaks disappeared

It's because they want to live in Africa. They expect Africa? So when things happen they signed up for it. And can say oh well this is Africa and I wanted this. Or go back home.
People leaving wants something different than Africa? People staying want Africa to be better that is why they fight the sick system.

Your expectations for southern Africa and the way things are run are not on the same level than when you move to an Islam country.

IMO.

No, you still just speak for yourself. Assuming to speak for the people is arrogant.

Try stop me.

Arrogant again

Ja, I guess I didn't know we were equivocating with 'personal' here. Should be calling it a poster attack then;)

Anyways, the one man's playful jab is the other's attack :wtf:

Okay, when you articulate it makes it easier to understand what you are saying.

Your welcome

Anyways, the one man's playful jab is the other's attack :wtf:

Actually he was speaking for more than just himself.

We talking serious stuff here, where jabs of any form are not needed. Perhaps TK is for you if you want to fool around.

I just showed you someone else who agreed with my vibe. People (a plural) was accurate as has been proven. Person (a singular) would have been inaccurate. Its not arrogance to state the obvious.

Arrogant again
Another personal attack? I think you are confusing arrogance with someone who doesn't care to listen to you telling them what to do.

Actually he was speaking for more than just himself.

You never speak for more than yourself in an anonymous forum. Or do you two have some kind of affiliation? If you seek clarity regarding a point, you ask. As simple as that

Are your blood boiling? Maybe your taking yourself too seriously.

Anyways... jabs, sarcasm, humour and any other artistic devices is necessary in any conversation or debate. Or do you eat your wholewheat bread without butter?
