MS Flight Simulator X

Instructions
There are four options for downloading MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2):
Use msxml.msi to install MSXML 4.0 SP2 and the SDK on your computer. You may also save msxml.msi to your local disk to install later. The MSXML 4.0 SP2 SDK is not installed by default. You must select the custom install option to install the SDK.
Use msxmlsdk.exe to download the redistributable merge module xmlsdk4.msm to distribute with your setup application.
Include msxml4sxs32.msm and msxm4sys32.msm in your msi installer. To get these files run msxml4msms.exe. For more information about packaging these msm files, see the release notes.
Use msxmlcab.exe to download the CAB file to redistribute MSXML over the Internet.

msxml6.msi
1.5 MB
msxml6_ia64.msi
3.6 MB
msxml6_SDK.msi
4.4 MB
msxml6_x64.msi
2.6 MB

Click the file you want to download from the list below.
Do one of the following:
To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.
To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.

Important: If you choose to install MSXML 4.0 using the MSI file, you need Windows Installer 2.0. Download Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 or Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition.

I got my Flight Sim X Deluxe Edition today and what a great sim it is! Even though its official release date is tomorrow, Digital planet made sure i got mine today. The graphics are amazing and gameplay is fantastic! Well done Microsoft:D

i played the demo on the pc format cd - but for some reason my system can't handle the graphics are you sure it doesn't eat to much?

JMSP!!
I took it back. They gave me an argument of course but I convinced them with science & logic. I'll wait until next year when the Vista patch and DirectX10 is released and the MS release department has taken stock of their mistake and maybe taken the trouble to read the InstallShield manual.

Did anyone notice FSX also brings up a dialogue box at the beginning with Visual C++ 2005 heading? I mean how sloppy is that?? Also if you manually delete this bloated software and then try the installer again, it doesn't over-write properly and you get other errors!

AFAIK the demo is much more forgiving of system deficiencies. The forums (incl MS gamers) are saying they got a shock when they tried the 'real' game. The thought is the demo was finished before the actual game.

From what I understand X-Plane is the one to get?
Also consider FlightGear which is GPL, freely downloadable (for those with bandwidth to spare) but also has media options.

Does anyone know a joystick i should get ?
Unfortunately got2gouge are the place to get the Saitek kit, the X52 being the bee's knees ..but it'll cost ya, oh YES it will! SO, if you can forgo the HOTAS love, you could well find happiness with a Logitech or Genius part: check out the usual (online) suspects for dealage.

I just bought MSFS X so if anyone wants to get together and fly a little please let me know. I am still trying to get the hang of the basics.

Anytime! JUST Finished with MATRIC Exam, so I have Time. I'm also just getting the hang of the basics...

realism?

How realistic is MSFS X? And I dont just mean the location of buttons and indicators, but the physics as well.

In other words...assuming you got enough flight sim time, will it save your life if you wake up in a commercial airliner and find everyone jumped shipped and left you by yourself to plot your own course, manoeuvre and land the plane?

I've been trying it today. I couldn't get it going for a week on account of the MSXML SP2 error. Then after I installed F.E.A.R, it started working.

Is it realistic?...Not very. You can fly from Cape Town Int. The background is very rough. The ATC terminology is not accurate. For example they say "Clear Takoff Runway 1", instead of "01".

Landing is far too easy. The roll rate on the C172SP is too slow. [Real straight & level flying is easier.]

Then again it is a game and they could not make it too accurate or people would never get the plane off the ground.

It is useful for advanced navigation practise (VORs and NDBs) or just procedural training.

Hi - there used to be a South African company that sold a cd with all the right AI and ATC stuff on especially made for the South African market, as well as better mesh detail. The detail even included the union buildings and Loftus and the voortrekker monument!
But I am also looking for them at the moment. Can't remember the name of the company. If anybody knows, let me please.

Where is the reward in playing this game now? You can't shoot and anything and you can't crash into buildings anymore.

Aeroworx? http://home.telkomsa.net/aeroworx/

Of course you can crash in to buildings. Enable some of the realism.
By default it's set to noob mode.
Heck, with the way I fly the plane would fall to pieces every time I took off if I wasn't able to drop some of the realism.

Just to give you guys a heads up:

http://www.fsx.co.za

FSX.co.za - Forums dedicated to flight sim and FSX.

The Aeroworx and NMG Trading scenery developers are members as well as plenty of South African flight simmers who discuss, help others and organise online meets etc.

Join us @ IntVas

Join us at http://www.intvas.net/ we need 18 members to form a South African Division. IntVas is a new network for online flying and controlling like VatSim and IVAO. The software to use to connect to the network gives real weather with gusting wind. A Real life experience.

Also download Johan van Wyk's great South African mesh (70m mesh) from www.avsim.net. The default ground textures in FSX is bad for South Africa. (70m mesh)

Any problems how to connect to intvas give me a shout.

See you online at intvas

I contacted x-plane yesterday about local distributers, and this morning i got a nice email which says they are prepared to send it airmail to us for $12

Not sure how long this would take but it sure beats $50 and that local website's bad price :)

Prv msg me on the forum and ill give you his details if you want

(i would have posted the full email of his but im not sure if that would violate the advertising policy on the myadsl forums :P)

EDIT: its $12 shipping as apposed to $50 shipping, the actual game is still $69
