MTN 3G Coverage Map

I think Vodacom still locks some of its phones.

Was at HiFi Corp and wanted to buy a Vodacom phone and use my MTN SIM in it, but every phone we put the SIM in wouldn't accept it.

I have'nt seen the SPOT advert and I see there is no thread yet but could you be speaking about the Nokia PT-6 Remote Camera - send still pictures (1mp) and video via MMS and SMTP on request, timed or on motion detection - also has infrared for night time.
Works great - I have one at home and it monitors my house. Would like to know what it costs on contract as I paid a fair amount for mine (after a major search for a supplier- which b.t.w. an MTN shop got for me eventually)

Thanks (just my 2c worth below) (Sorry - very OT now)

* The enclosure is sealed at point of manufacture :-( (can only use 4 smileys)
* The GPRS SIM card is inserted at point of manufacture and cannot be removed :(
* Any attempt to break open or access the components will destroy the circuitry in the camera. The GPRS SIM will also be rendered useless. :eek:
* The camera is “splash-proof” not water proof – it has limited outdoor use. It cannot take direct sun-light or direct rain. Install it with some form of shelter.
* There are no in-put or out-put connections. :(
* The components on board are RS232 or serial-based :(
* Auto iris lens – requires a light source to view image (no night view?)

Not very user friendly - and if you want to change settings, it must be done through the company :-(

Look I agree with your points above, the camera has mainly been designed for indoor purposes.

I think the Nokia camera is a lot more user friendly and allows for the above, I think they might be a bit of a price difference I'm not sure.

We've got one of the JAM cam's here in the office and this thing is awesome - video streaming, picture capturing, they can even design it in such a way to rotate up down side to side with a remote and you must see the quality - Now if I could buy one of the Jam cam's I would do it in a heartbeat

You know when you press *123# you get MMS Cameras and streaming on the all major intersections well the Jam cam is used for those feeds

Hi MTN DD.

Can you please ask the Network guys when the new MTN tower will be active at Laerskool Hennopspark in Centurion - as indicated by Bongani Jones when he did tests at my place in May. I haven't had any news since Bongani's visit. I need a broadband solution at home but still sit with a MTN 3G/HSDPA data card without any 3G and EDGE reception - and without any indication of when it will be available. My original ref no at MTN: 0008791.

I do not want to sign and get locked into a second broadband contract with another provider (Vodacom/iBurst) - unless MTN indicates that it is not going to sort the problem out in Hennopspark soon.

maybe you can help me with the following ...

I have an existing MTN Pro-Call contract with a Nokia 9300i phone that I took out in Dec 2005. My work activities have evolved in the last six months to the extent that I now need a Blackberry solution. With the Nokia I have to pull my e-mail when I have time to sit down and do so (not often enough). Blackberry will work much better for me now. What are my options with MTN? How can I get Blackberry without changing my number? Is there a way to convert my current contract to Blackberry - and if so what will it cost?

If a conversion is possible I assume that I would have to buy the handset seperately. What models are available at what cost - and when will new models become available?
 
i called 0839001212 , 14h53 , asked about 3G coverage , for Lansdowne , Cape Town , all they could tell me was the next rollout will be in November , not very helpfull
 
MTN DD, any chance you could post a schedule of the rollout in the Cape Town area please?
 
Blackberry workaround

Trafeye - try the following as a contract free workaround for fetching your e-mail to a 9300/9500:-

download automail.sis and demoopl.sis. Install demoopl.sis first, then automail. (using nokia datasuite)
You can set up automail to fetch your e-mail at regular times thru' the day:D
