Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Tried both MTN & Absa and they were clueless about what I was asking.

Need to find out if the MTN Sim Menu that provides mobile banking for Absa(with banking functions, as well as buying electricity & prepaid airtime) is supported on my phone.
I can't seem to find it anywhere(App drawer, Settings...). I can still use a browser but would prefer native access of some sort as it's a lot easier to work with. If I put my sim in another phone (Nokia / BB / Old Samsung / Old WinMo HTC) I can see it so I'm thinking the problem has to be with Android. Do I maybe have to upgrade my Sim? I read somewhere that MTN upgraded their Sims to 128k or do they maybe have an app like FNB just released?

Thanks!

Look for 'SIM Toolkit'

Hello,

Please look for an icon labled 'SIM Toolkit', there you should find the MTN Menu,

Device Manufacturers tend to 'hide' these SIM Menus, so only after some digging you will find them, or like HTC have not displayed the Operater designated name for their SIM Menu

Hope this helps,

Regards,
Ahmad

Hi Ahmad,

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately I was unable to find it. I can see it in my [Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All] but it will not show in my app drawer nor is there an option to enable this.

Searched for "sim toolkit android" and found a couple of discussions around this.
Seems like this is an issue with Android, which has been around for a while now.

So unless I'm mistaken, anyone that owns an Android device(I believe this is the same for Apple? ) won't be able to access sim services, ain't that a b***ch! My high-end expensive gadget can't handle a simple function like sim services
FNB just released an app, either Absa follow suit soon or I'm shipping off.

Well at least I've got my answer now. Thanks, wouldn't have known what to search for if it wasn't for your suggestion.

Yeah, maybe it's about time I looked into rooting. Apparently some users of CyanogenMod can access these services, albeit some partial.

Do you know if anyone had been able to get this right via different rom, locally? Specifically on MTN / Absa.

i am running a cm rom and i have the sim toolkit. although i can't actually get the absa banking service to download.

Bummer...I also just read that it's buggy so yah. Guess we'll have to wait for an app.
