@quikdine: I don't think u are the only with that thinking. I have heard of some Afrikaans companies who subscribe to that very school of thought. I beleive that attitude is very rife in Pretoria. Somehow though, I don't think that they would have behaved any differently even if the Apartheid government was still in power. They might however use the current BEE policies as an excuse though.

Rubbish. Why should those who did not propagate the discrimation be made to suffer. As I said in the previous thread, it would be better that they offer the shares to individuals with low or no salary, proof via payslip or registration for welfare, UIF etc. If the folks who say whites have it all are correct, then you won't get any white aplicants anyway right ..... right?

For the people hating on the Chinese, go work in China or Taiwan doing a job that requires english as a first language. You will be the beneficiary of positive discrimination. In Shanghai, China (for example) you will earn many times the salary that a local person earns and you will even earn more than asians who's first language is english! Also very curious about this. Can the teller at the post office refuse to accept your application depending on what you look like?

Once the application is however processed, MTN can pick up your race from your ID number.

I don't agree that this form of BEE promotes hatred at all. I think people just need to get over themselves and realise that this is a good thing and will help people.

Why not give it to poor whites ? Well they had all the benifits of apartheid and still managed to be poor... perhaps they just are supposed to be like that.

During the apartheid era the second to last digit, "A", denoted "race". Since these documents were not then issued to the majority population, the "race" code does not include any of those of African descent.

After about 1987 the racial classification was eliminated, and all existing numbers were reissued with new digits in the last two fields (AZ).

@BBSA, correct. My ID number issued when i was born ended in 047. When I was given my green ID book it ended in 088. The info is all out there people if u Google for the right stuff.

So in other words, there is nothing stopping whites from applying for these BEE shares? You could just tell the teller at the SAPO that you are coloured. How is he going to prove that you're not, or how are you going to prove that you're not white?

Would you be lying if you said you were coloured? All South African's are coloured - we are each a colour of the rainbow nation.
